  • Patent number: 6835448
Abstract: A friction material for a liquid medium, according to the invention, consists of a fibre mat impregnated with a thermosetting resin, the fibres having a length of at least 12 mm. The method of producing such a material includes the following steps: a) a mixture of fibres of the same nature or of different natures is produced in a mixer; b) the mixture is carded to form a card web; c) the card web is lapped; d) the lap thus formed is needled; e) the needled mat is impregnated with a thermosetting resin.

  • Patent number: 6290046
Abstract: A torque converter includes a bridging clutch having an annular friction liner for engaging axially against a reaction surface of the clutch. The liner is in the form of an annular ring having a friction surface, an outer perimeter and an inner perimeter, with a network of grooves formed in the friction surface to enable a liquid to flow between the liner and the reaction surface. The network of grooves is not open radially in the outer perimeter of the liner.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 16, 2001
Date of Patent: September 18, 2001
    Assignee: Valeo

  • Patent number: 6135258
Abstract: A friction liner having a flat, annular general form, for a friction device designed to operate in a liquid medium, consists in particular of a clutch friction wheel or a brake disc, especially for an automatic gearbox or associated with such a gearbox, or a synchronising ring or cone for a manual gearbox. Such friction devices are intended in particular for motor vehicles. The liner is made of a friction material consisting of a mat of fibers impregnated with a thermosetting resin. After a final curing step while the liner is being moulded under pressure, this material has a porous structure with intercommunicating cells. The liner includes zones having different controlled porosities.

  • Patent number: 4733635
Abstract: A heat generator suitable for heating the cab or passenger compartment of a motorized automobile vehicle comprises an enclosure inside which are mechanical friction means adapted to be driven by the motor of the vehicle. These friction means are operable with a variable clamping force. A heat transfer liquid is circulated through this enclosure. The clamping force of the friction means is varied in inverse proportion to the speed at which friction means are driven by the motor. Thus the clamping force on the friction means is reduced as the motor speed increases, so that the quantity of heat produced is largely independent of the rotation speed of the motor.
