  • Patent number: 6554460
Abstract: A motor vehicle headlight of the elliptical type, giving both a dipped beam and a main beam, has a light source which cooperates with a reflector to produce a patch of light, with a lens projecting the patch of light on the road, and a movable mask being arranged so that, in a working position, it masks a part of the light patch so that the lens produces a cut-off beam, while in an inactive or retracted position of the mask, the lens projects essentially the whole of the light patch so as to produce a beam without any cut-off. The reflector comprises a first zone which produces a first part of the light patch, not significantly masked by the mask in its working position, and a second zone which produces a second part of the light patch. This second part is cut off by the mask in its working position to a much greater extent. The two parts of the light patch have different distributions of the light in a direction transversely to the direction of projection.

  • Patent number: 6431736
Abstract: A headlight for a motor vehicle is provided for generating a light beam, and particularly a dipped beam, of a given configuration. The headlight has a light source, a reflector of the elliptical type having a first focus in the vicinity of which the light source is situated, and a lens placed in front of the reflector. The reflector has at least two zones which are situated side by side and which are adapted to form, in a focal region of the lens, patches of light which are preformed in width, and overlap each other in a horizontal direction.

  • Patent number: 6068391
Abstract: A motor vehicle headlamp has a lamp with two filaments, one of which has a masking screen so as to form a chopped or dipped beam, while the other filament is unmasked so as to produce an unchopped beam. The headlight also includes a reflector and a smooth cover lens. The reflector has an upper zone extending between two radial half planes which are inclined by the same amount below the horizontal, this upper zone being larger than the part of the reflector which is exposed to the first filament; the reflector has two lateral sub-zones with base surfaces which are symmetrical with respect to the vertical, with striations being formed by projection on the base surface, the striations being configured according to the particular type of chopped beam required. The reflector also has a second zone having a surface for cooperation with the second filament only, so as to form a wide portion of the beam and extending at least partly above the cut-off of the dipped beam.

  • Patent number: 5975731
Abstract: A motor vehicle headlight comprises a reflector, a bulb, a glass, and a direct light mask provided in front of the bulb and mounted on the reflector by at least one generally vertical bracket. The reflector has a reflective surface capable of generating by itself a beam whose light is distributed widthwise in a homogeneous manner, between a zero inclination and a maximum inclination. The reflector has two lateral zones delimited by axial vertical limit-planes passing in the vicinity of the edges of the bracket or brackets, the reflective surfaces of which are such that the radiation changes progressively, from these limit-planes, between an essentially zero horizontal deviation and a divergent horizontal deviation, and a central zone situated between the said limit-planes and capable of directing a substantial part of the radiation away from the transition zones constituted by the edges of the bracket or brackets.

  • Patent number: 5951156
Abstract: A motor vehicle headlamp has a light source, such as the filament of an incandescent lamp, of a kind which emits light freely around it, together with a reflector and a cover lens. The reflector is adapted so that, by reflection from the light source, it can produce, by itself, a light beam which is delimited by a cut-off defined by a horizontal half cut-off line and a raised cut-off line which is raised by a predetermined angle of cut-off elevation with respect to the horizontal. The reflector consists of two zones, which are separated by two transition half planes that pass close to the source, namely a first zone consisting of a surface for producing images of the light source offset on the side towards the horizontal half cut-off line and extending below, and close to, the latter, and a second zone consisting of a surface which produces images of the light source offset on the side towards the raised half cut-off line and extending below and close to the latter.
