  • Patent number: 8754166
Abstract: A multilayer paint system wherein each layer of paint uses the same activator and the same mixing ratio of film-forming binder to activator. The paint system herein is particularly useful for automotive refinishing applications.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 2006
Date of Patent: June 17, 2014
Assignee: Axalta Coating Systems IP Co., LLC
Inventors: Laura Ann Lewin, Denise Elizabeth Fiori, Carl L. Kishbaugh, Brian Edward Priore, Audrey Pamela Stephenson
  • Patent number: 7652099
Abstract: A process for making coating compositions with adjustable properties by blending two or more coating compositions of distinctly different attributes to achieve custom properties. The coating compositions formed herein are particularly useful in automotive refinish applications where customized properties are desired depending on the needs of the job.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 2006
Date of Patent: January 26, 2010
Assignee: E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Denise Elizabeth Fiori, Carl L. Kishbaugh, Laura Ann Lewin, Brian Edward Priore, Audrey Pamela Stephenson
  • Publication number: 20070197727
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a multi component coating composition that includes a crosslinkable, crosslinking and catalyst components. The catalyst component includes organo zinc cocatalysts, organo tin catalysts, and carboxylic acids. The catalyst component provides long pot life to a pot mix obtained by mixing the aforementioned with components while simultaneously providing a coating resulting from the pot mix with desired coating properties, such as desired early hardness of a coating resulting from a relatively low temperature baking cure cycle.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 13, 2007
    Publication date: August 23, 2007
Inventors: Laura Ann Lewin, James William O'Neil, Carl Brent Douglas, Denise Elizabeth Fiori

  • Publication number: 20010003755
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to improved high-temperature-gelation-resistant acrylic materials, particularly for use with a polyisocyanate crosslinker in forming low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, curable, oil-in-water emulsions for aqueous coatings. Incorporation of methacrylic acid into copolymers containing COOH and OH groups facilitates the manufacture of low viscosity, low molecular weight, low-VOC acrylic copolymers. Polyols made from methacrylic acid can be maintained at higher temperatures and/or for longer periods of time while maintaining their low viscosities and molecular weights as compared to polyols synthesized from acrylic acid. Low viscosities and molecular weights after polymerization with methacrylic acid comonomers can be maintained at higher temperatures and for longer periods of time than polymers including acrylic acid comonomers, as previously used in the prior art.
