  • Patent number: 7591267
Abstract: A breathing circuit for use with a ventilated patient that includes a heat exchanger for removing water vapor from the breathing gases to prevent condensation within the breathing circuit. The heat exchanger is positioned downstream from the CO2 absorber and receives the breathing gases from the CO2 absorber prior to delivery of the breathing gases to the inspiration limb of the patient circuit. The heat exchanger includes a plurality of inflow tubes and outflow tubes that are each open to a sump removably attached to the heat exchanger. The sump collects the water vapor condensed from the breathing gases within the heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 6571792
Abstract: An anesthesia system wherein the respiratory system is fitted with interchangeable patient circuit modules that allows a generic fitting in the machine to have affixed, hereto, a module that has ports suitable for connection to various patient breathing circuits. As such, the anesthesia machine can have the patient circuit modules easily changed and thus be adaptable for use with patient breathing circuits such as the circle system, the open/nonrebreathing circuit and the Bain or Mapleson D circuits. A detector system is provided that identifies that particular patient module installed in the anesthesia machine to alert the main CPU and to thus provide the correct flow sensing schemes and flows to the patient breathing circuit then being used.

  • Patent number: 5762382
Abstract: A connection, preferably for use in a medical environment, for joining a rigid circular port from a medical machine to an elastomeric hose cuff having a medical hose extending therefrom. The rigid cuff has an external annular bead formed at its outward end while the elastomeric hose cuff has an internal annular bead formed at its distal end. When the components are coupled together by sliding the hose cuff over the rigid port, a double seal is formed between the various annular beads and the surfaces of the component to provide a substantially leakproof seal between the elastomeric hose cuff and the rigid port to prevent gasses from escaping to the surrounding environment.

  • Patent number: 5692494
Abstract: A breathing bag arm assembly that is affixed to a medical apparatus such as an anesthesia machine or component thereof. The breathing bag arm assembly comprises three moving parts, a base connector that rotatable attaches to the medical apparatus, a bent tube that is affixed to the base connector and can be rotated to a plurality of discrete locked positions with respect to the base connector and a port connector that is rotatable affixed to the other end of the bent tube. The port connector has a port for connecting to the flexible bag. By manipulation of the assembly, the clinician can locate the flexible bag in a variety of positions for convenient use, and retain the flexible bag in the desired position depending vertically downwardly. The overall assembly is readily disassembled and reassembled for cleaning or the like.

  • Patent number: 5682876
Abstract: A locking device is disclosed for attachment to an absorber used in an anesthesia system and which provides assurance that the bag to ventilator switch cannot be put in the ventilator position for those applications where a ventilator is not intended to be used, i.e. MRI applications. As a further feature, the locking device also physically prevents the ventilator input to the bag to ventilator switch from being occluded, either by a protective plastic shipping cap or by having tubing or other conduits connected thereto.
