Alternately, the frame may include an extension and T-slot to connect two frames. A related improvement is a suspension leg including telescoping sections and a compressible, resilient member controlling movement of the telescoping sections. Another related improvement relates to a frame structure with connected angled supports and slats connected thereto to form the mattress supporting surface.

Abstract: An adjustable platform bed frame includes first and second frame segments, wherein each frame segment has an outer frame member and a plurality of cross-members, with the first frame segment being positioned at a height that is slightly lower than that of the second frame segment; an adjustable frame member pivotally connected with and positioned above the first frame segment; and an adjustment mechanism connected at one end with the first frame segment and at its other end with the adjustable frame member, with the adjustment mechanism being operable for temporarily fixing the adjustable frame member in an inclined position relative to the second frame segment. The first and second frame segments may also be connected with one another by a lateral hinge connection that allows the first and second frame segments to fold relative to one another.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for diagnosing a subject's desired level of support and comfort. In accordance with the method, a diagnostic mattress with an adjustable support structure is provided. A subject is positioned on the diagnostic mattress. The adjustable support structure of the diagnostic mattress is adjusted in accordance with a desired level of support as determined by the subject positioned on the diagnostic mattress. The subject's desired support level is correlated to a support characteristic of a mattress with a fixed support structure thereby allowing the subject to select a mattress with a fixed support structure characteristic generally equal to the subject's desired support level as determined from the diagnostic mattress. System employing the method is also disclosed.

Abstract: A system and method of selecting a pillow is disclosed. The system includes a pillow selection device adapted to display a plurality of pillow selection criteria from which an individual can determine at least one recommended pillow model based on the individual's personal pillow selection criteria. In one embodiment, the pillow selection device is in the form of at least one card having a grid with a plurality of rows and columns which define a plurality of slots, each slot representing a set of pillow selection criteria and identifying at least one pillow model recommended for that set of pillow selection criteria. In another embodiment, the pillow selection device is implemented in software which provides a graphical user interface configured to request and receive input from the individual related to his or her pillow selection criteria and which determined at least one recommended pillow based on the inputted pillow selection criteria.

Abstract: A fire resistant mattress includes a fastener that allows a mattress cover to be opened to expose a mattress core having at least one combustible component. The fastener is preferably a slide fastener or a hook and pile fastener. A flap of fire resistant material extends downwardly from the top surface of the mattress cover and covers the fastener during normal use to protect it against an open flame. The mattress meets the open flame test requirements of Technical Bulletin 603 of the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
