  • Patent number: 6786517
Abstract: A novel concentric pipe joint restraint is disclosed. The restraint is specifically designed to resist axial movement of an inner spigot pipe relative to an outer socket pipe with which it has been joined. The restraint, which operates within the annulus, generally comprises a spigot wedge ring, a socket wedge ring, and one or more specially designed wedge housings. The spigot wedge ring features one or more spigot gripping protrusions which, upon contact, frictionally engage the spigot pipe. The socket wedge ring similarly features one or more socket gripping protrusions which, upon contact, frictionally engage the socket pipe. The wedge housings position the spigot wedge ring and/or the socket wedge ring so that the gripping protrusions grip the pipes, preventing axial movement (whether separation or compression).

  • Patent number: 6173993
Abstract: A joint restraint (10) for securing a first pipe (12) to a second pipe. The joint restraint (10) includes an annular body (14) and a plurality of wedge housings (18) extending from the annular body (14) and characterized by open rear faces (38) to allow coreless casting. A bolt (32) is disposed within a hole (30) in each wedge housing (18) and a wedge (40) is disposed within each wedge housing (18). Each wedge (40) has a bolt-actuated tooth (52), a larger pressure-actuated tooth (54), a top surface (44) having a groove (48) adapted to slidably receive a bolt actuator (32), and a bottom surface (42) that is partially tapered to act as a bearing (76) limiting the extent of bolt-driven actuation.

  • Patent number: 4896903
Abstract: A segmented retainer gland assembly for holding pipe joints and the like together, including at least two gland segments in the shape of a circular arc forming together a circular gland for securing around a circular pipe, each of the segments having end flanges projecting substantially perpendicular to one side face of the gland segment, a clamping bracket having an inside face provided with a recess sized and shaped to receive the two end segment end flanges when adjacent ends of the gland segments are positioned together, each of the clamping brackets and gland segments having bolt holes and each of the clamping brackets having corresponding bolt holes which align with the bolt holes in the gland segments when the segments are positioned together, and bolts and nuts for securing the clamping brackets on the gland segments to hold the segments together at the end flanges to form a circular gland when the flanges are assembled together.
