  • Publication number: 20130112773
Abstract: The foam generator apparatus includes a pair of collapsible bladders for storing a unitary or binary fluid/foam concentrate mixture and an air bottle forming a source of pressurized gas. These elements are mounted on a chassis which has a proportioning pump, mounted on the chassis, connected to the air bottle, and powered by the pressurized gas, for producing a flow of the unitary or binary fluid/foam concentrate mixture from the pair of collapsible bladders to an output port, wherein the chassis includes two sides pivotally attached to a backplate and operable to form an enclosure around the pair of collapsible bladders. An air-injection apparatus is connected to the output port of the pump to mix a controllable volume of pressurized gas into the fluid/foam concentrate mixture received from the pump to create a foam.

  • Patent number: 5623995
Abstract: The fire suppressant foam generation and application apparatus produces a low moisture content fire suppressant foam for use in fire fighting applications. The reduction in the water content of the fire suppressant foam is accomplished by the use of pressurized gas in place of water along with a stata tube apparatus to agitate the foam/water mixture to create the fire suppressant foam. A pressurized gas operated pump can be used to actively draw the water/foam mixture from a supply tank and supply it under pressure to the stata tube and outlet line. This apparatus can be implemented as a backpack unit consisting of a storage tank, formed as a substantially U-shaped molded element, which contains the liquid foam concentrate/water mixture. A high pressure tank containing pressurized gas, either nitrogen or a nitrogen-air mixture, or other suitable gas mixture, is included in an aperture formed in the storage tank housing.

  • Patent number: 5165482
Abstract: The fire deterrent system operates in a preemptive manner by detecting the impending approach of a wildfire within the vicinity of the structure to be protected. The system includes apparatus to identify the locus and direction of spread of a fire while it is outside of a defensive perimeter that encircles the structure and extends outward therefrom. The estimated time of arrival of the fire at the defensive perimeter is determined and the structure and surrounding vegetation sprayed a predetermined time in advance of the determined arrival of the fire. Prewetting the structure and surrounding vegetation reduces the probability of local fires caused by wind-borne embers and reduces the combustibility of these materials to assist conventional fire fighting efforts.
