  • Patent number: 8103760
Abstract: Systems and methods simplify the provision of complex services over a distributed network by breaking a complex service into a collection of simpler services. Systems and methods provide the tools to deconstruct a complex, provision service elements that are needed to make up the complex service, and monitor the service elements to ensure that the complex service is supported. Quality of service is provided by matching service requirements to compute resource capabilities.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 30, 2005
Date of Patent: January 24, 2012
    Assignee: Oracle America, Inc.
Inventors: Dennis G. Reedy, James B. Clarke
  • Patent number: 7660887
Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with certain aspects related to the present invention provide a dynamic service delivery system based on a capability to provide services through a distributed system using qualitative and quantitative Quality of Service (QoS) attributes. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, a method for providing a service that includes collecting capability information reflecting a current operating condition of a compute resource and determining a platform capability and a measurable capability value for a depletion-oriented characteristic of the compute resource based on the collected capability information. Based on at least one of the platform capability and the measurable capability value; a capability value for the compute resource is determined and this value is provided to a provision manager that determines whether the compute resource is worthy of being an available resource in the distributed system based on the capability value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 2003
Date of Patent: February 9, 2010
    Assignee: Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Inventors: Dennis G. Reedy, Larry J. Mitchell

  • Publication number: 20030051030
Abstract: Systems and methods collect metrics and make them available on a distributed system. Any type of metrics, such as quantities, elapsed time, and temperature, may be collected. The collected metrics are stored in distributed repositories running anywhere on the network. These repositories can be made available over the distributed system using the Jini™ lookup service or other lookup services.
