  • Publication number: 20020086134
Abstract: The present invention embodies covers, especially those used in the textile industry. Some covers are made of a polypropylene comprising less than 90 percent isotactic linkages and a thermoplastic block copolymer comprising hard segments of polystyrene combined with soft segments. • Patent number: 6359068
Abstract: Compositions have been created comprising a blend of a polypropylene having less than 90 percent isotactic linkages and thermoplastic block copolymers. Specifically, the thermoplastic block copolymers comprise hard segments of polystyrene combined with soft segments comprising 2 to 8 carbon atoms. Some of the physical characteristics of materials made by these composition are more desirable than the same physical characteristics of materials made of the polypropylene having less than 90 percent isotactic linkages used to make the composition and of the same physical characteristics of materials made of the thermoplastic block copolymer used to make the composition.

  • Patent number: 6106922
Abstract: A web of material has a plurality of stems extending from at least one side of the web. The web includes a first layer of material having a first side and a second side and a second layer of material. The second layer of material has a first side which faces the first side of the first layer and a second side from which the plurality of stems extend. The first and second layers of material are joined together while they are both molten, before either layer has cooled. The first and second layers of material can be formed of thermoplastic material or melt processable polymeric material. A method of making a web of material includes selecting a first material for a first layer of material and selecting a second material for a second layer of material. The first and second layers of material are melt formed. Then, the first and second layers of material are joined while the layers are in the molten state to form a multiple layer sheet.

  • Patent number: 6080482
Abstract: Undrawn, tough, durably melt-bondable, macrodenier, thermoplastic, multicomponent filaments, such as sheath-core and side-by-side filaments, comprising a first plastic component and a second lower-melting component defining all or at least part of the material-air boundary of the filaments. The filaments can be made by melt-extruding thermoplastics to form hot filaments, cooling and solidifying the hot filaments, and recovering the solidified filaments without any substantial tension being placed thereon. • Patent number: 6060009
Abstract: A method is provided that includes a starting material of a first sheet having first and second major sides, with the first side of the first sheet being adapted for adherence to a substrate sheet, and providing a second porous sheet having first and second major sides. The first side of the second porous sheet is aligned against the second side of the first sheet. A molten thermoplastic material is introduced onto the second side of the second porous sheet. The method includes the step of simultaneously urging the molten thermoplastic material against the second porous sheet to force portions of the thermoplastic material to flow through the second porous sheet and into adhering contact with the second side of the first sheet, and molding a desired surface pattern on an exposed surface of the molten thermoplastic material. The molten thermoplastic material is cooled to bind the material to the first and second sheets and define a laminated assembly.

  • Patent number: 5593628
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of making an orthopedic casting article comprising an apertured, extruded sheet. The method involves the steps of charging an extrudable material selected from the group consisting of low temperature thermoplastic polymers and viscous curable resins to an extruder; and extruding the material through a die to form an apertured sheet. The sheet is used as an orthopedic casting material and has a sufficient number of apertures after application to the patient to allow moisture vapors produced by the skin to freely escape through the cast or splint. The sheet preferably has at least 20 percent aperture volume. The apertured, extruded sheet may optionally contain a filler associated with the resin. The incorporation of fillers adds substantially to the strength of the cured casting material as well as to the handling properties of the uncured casting tape or bandage.
