Patent number: 7330782Abstract: A control system for a marine vessel having one or more engines and a transmission associated with each engine is disclosed. The control system includes one or more control stations, each having a control arm and arm position means coupled to the control arm for providing an electrical signal that represents a position of the control arm within its operating range. The system includes one or more electronic control units, each of which is electro-mechanically coupled to an engine and a transmission. A first electronic control unit (ECU) includes input means for receiving the electrical signal, control means for controlling a throttle of a first engine and shift position of a first transmission based on the electrical signal, and output means for providing a control signal that represents a current position of the control arm to a second ECU.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2005Date of Patent: February 12, 2008Assignee: Telefax IncorporatedInventors: Dennis I. Graham, Daniel J. Carr, Scott L. Kern, Howard A. Lang

Patent number: 6587765Abstract: A control system for a marine vessel having one or more engines and a transmission associated with each engine includes one or more control stations, each having a control arm. The system includes one or more electronic control units, each of which is electro-mechanically coupled to an engine and a transmission. A first electronic control unit (ECU) controls a throttle of a first engine and a shift position of a first transmission based on the electrical signal. The second ECU is coupled to the first ECU via the communications link, and controls the throttle of a second engine and the shift position of a second transmission based on a control signal from the first ECU.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2001Date of Patent: July 1, 2003Assignee: Teleflex IncorporatedInventors: Dennis I. Patent number: 4730510Abstract: A control cable assembly has variable travel length and variable types of end fittings. Interchangeable rods and hubs of varied configuration and length are selectively screwed onto the threaded heads of connectors fixed to the ends of the core and conduit respectively. Hub liners are snapped off at grooves to desired lengths and are positioned between the core and hub.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1986Date of Patent: March 15, 1988Inventor: Dennis I. Graham

Patent number: 4471711Abstract: A push-pull cable assembly for use in high temperature environments, particularly for use with engines generating high temperatures in application, has a cable conduit with a natural nylon outer tubular element and a nylon inner tubular element helically wrapped by wires. Nylon 66 is preferred. A chromatic indicator is included in the outer element. Exposure to the elevated temperature environment for a long period of time causes the conduit to change from its original green color to dark brown as failure of the assembly becomes imminent. The cable assembly is replaced when the conduit turns dark tan or brown.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1981Date of Patent: September 18, 1984Assignee: Incom International Inc.Inventor: Dennis I. Patent number: 4355920Abstract: Apparatus is provided for adapting the clamp-type end fitting of a push-pull cable assembly to a bulkhead-type fitting. Identical semi-cylindrical castings form a sleeve on the cable assembly. The castings are offset axially with respect to each other. Ridges formed on the inner surfaces of the castings cooperate to engage an annular groove formed in the cable assembly and thereby hold the sleeve on the cable assembly. Two nuts threaded onto the outer surface of the sleeve mount the assembly to a wall or bulkhead.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1980Date of Patent: October 26, 1982Assignee: Incom International Inc.Inventor: Dennis I.
