  • Patent number: 12356527
Abstract: A multimode lighting system is disclosed. Due to industry standards, manufacturers of lighting devices are incentivized to create high initial light outputs that drop off quickly. Portable lighting devices with multiple modes of operation that can maximize light output and runtime according to industry standards (e.g., FL-1) as well as other lighting modes with more consistent light output over the device runtime. Lighting modes may be adjusted automatically based on sensor input. In an extreme mode, light output may be adjusted based on the temperature of the lights. Automatic modes may be adjusted based on ambient lighting or distance to a target. Lifecycle adjustments may be made to output current levels to obtain consistent light output throughout the lifecycle of lights by adjusting lighting based on accumulated usage.

  • Patent number: 12276717
Abstract: A microwave motion detection system and lighting applications are disclosed. Time slicing and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques are used to improve efficiency in microwave motion detection sensors. Systems employing motion detection may control the detection of irrelevant motion with shielding and changing the power of the microwave motion detection sensor. Distance-based zones may be designated, and motion may be detected in particular zones. Different device operation may be performed based on motion detection in different zones. In lighting applications, varying device operation may include varying the direction, amount, or duration of light output. Device operation, when motion is detected, may also be based on the time of day, user preference, and power status parameters.

  • Patent number: 12255477
Abstract: A flashlight with a holster charging system is disclosed. A charging holster may provide powered storage for the flashlight and provide extra power for use in other devices such as headlamps. The holster may attach, via a clip, onto the belt, pocket, or bag of a user so they may carry the flashlight while the flashlight recharges. A user may be able to use the flashlight while charging the flashlight in the holster. The holster may have an aperture for an attached flashlight to shine through while electrically coupled to the holster. Charging contacts on the charging holster may be configured to contact charging rings on the flashlight to couple the flashlight to charging circuitry. Power and mode buttons at the rear of the flashlight may enable the flashlight to be powered and operational mode changed on while holstered no matter the orientation the flashlight in the holster.

  • Publication number: 20240120750
Abstract: Systems, apparatus, and methods for dynamic battery management. Historically, most portable devices were designed to work with dry cell and rechargeable batteries which provided a stable power level that slowly dropped over time. More recently, however, some products have implemented dynamic loading capabilities—dynamic loading potentially offers better performance, longer battery life, and/or improved functionality. Unfortunately, dynamic loads have highly variable voltage readings that present a challenge in estimating remaining battery capacity. Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide power from multiple different power sources with different characteristics and/or capabilities. The power sources are monitored and dynamically loaded according to their capability. Additionally, the estimated usage may be provided to the user to inform them of e.g., remaining capacity, ongoing current draw, etc.

  • Publication number: 20230231211
Abstract: Systems, apparatus, and methods for managing power in a hybrid battery cartridge. The hybrid battery cartridge may output single-use battery power, rechargeable battery power, or both. Thus, a single battery cartridge may store multiple types of batteries and allow the batteries to be used separately or concurrently. In one example usage, the battery cartridge may be inserted into other devices to provide power. Additionally, the intelligent hybrid battery cartridge may be used as a stand-alone charger to charge other devices. The intelligent hybrid battery cartridge is designed to allow for retrofitting into existing single-use battery powered devices such as flashlights and lanterns to make them hybrid power enabled. The hybrid battery cartridge may select a power source based the type of load and/or on a reserve power threshold.
