Abstract: A medical product storage device includes a controller that operates an access control system to limit access to a storage space of the medical product storage device. The controller monitors a temperature in the storage space and other operating parameters of the medical product storage device. The medical product storage device includes a display that displays information related to the operating parameters. The information related to the operating parameters includes a graph of the temperature in the storage space, the graph including icons associated with specific events that occur relative to the operating parameters. Activation of the icons cause an event history to be displayed. Activation of a specific event permits a user to generate a corrective action record. A user remote from the medical product storage device may be notified of specific adverse events.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for storing medical products such as pharmaceutical and medical products in climate controlled storage devices includes climate control systems in communication with inventory access and tracking systems. The inventory stored may be accessed by an authorized user providing a barcode input or other authorizing input. The apparatus may log climate parameters and associate the climate parameters with the items in storage. The system may limit access to particular storage locations to provide control of the inventory.

Abstract: An incubator for storing blood platelets is provided. The incubator has a temperature controlled storage compartment and an apparatus for monitoring temperature within the storage compartment and other events. The incubator is configured to accept agitators within the storage compartment, the agitators operable to provide constant agitation of materials stored thereon. The information monitored is stored for access through a user interface or by an independent computer.

Abstract: A freezer for the storage of blood plasma and other blood products includes a user interface device which permits a user to adjust operating parameters of the freezer. The user interface device is operable to display the current status of the freezer. A defrost icon is displayed when the freezer is in defrost mode. The user interface device a graphical representation of the temperature within the freezer over the previous twenty-four hours. The controller of the freezer stores temperature related events which can be displayed on the user interface device or downloaded to a remote computer.

Abstract: A sensor for placement against the tissue of a living subject for the purpose of measuring a physiological quantity. The sensor includes a rigid housing having a recess chamber formed therein. A light source and sensor is mounted in a flexible mounting pad secured to the housing. The flexible mounting pad allows the light source and sensor to move independently of each other and conforms to the adjacent tissue.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for mixing serum and reagents for chemical analysis. The method comprises the steps of providing a container containing a serum sample and one or more reagents to be mixed, positioning an elongated mixing member within the containers and extending into the serum sample and reagents to be mixed, and then rapidly oscillating the mixing member back and forth along an arcuate path for a sufficient period of time to thoroughly mix the serum sample and reagents. The method reduces foaming of the serum sample-reagent fluid being mixed, helps to eliminate the formation of air bubbles therein and is useful as a degasser to remove air or other gases from serum-reagent mixture. Piezoelectric techniques are employed to effect the mixing with a simple and reliable apparatus.
