  • Patent number: 6233894
Abstract: A guardrail assembly movable along a roof structure is disclosed. The guardrail assembly is used in cooperation with a roof structure having a plurality of purlins spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement and sheets of roofing material fastened to the purlins. The sheets have ends which define an edge of the roof structure extending in a first direction. The guardrail assembly is movable along the roof structure in the first direction. The guardrail assembly includes a railing positioned above the sheets of roofing material and extends generally in the first direction.

  • Patent number: 6056231
Abstract: An apparatus for providing a roof structure having a plurality of purlins spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement is disclosed. The apparatus includes a carriage which is movable in a downstream direction along the length of the purlins. As the carriage moves in the downstream direction, a support sheet for support of insulation material is payed out so that the support sheet depends from adjacent purlins. The apparatus further includes a plate which is attached to the carriage. The plate supports a roll of insulation material which is unsupported axially. The insulation material is connected at the upstream end of the roof structure and is payed out on top of the support sheet as the carriage moves along the length of the purlins.

  • Patent number: 5911385
Abstract: An apparatus for providing a roof structure having a plurality of purlins spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement is disclosed. The apparatus includes a carriage which is movable in a downstream direction along the length of the purlins. The carriage pays out a support sheet for support of insulation material as the carriage travels along the length of the purlins so that the support sheet depends from the top portion of adjacent purlins. The apparatus further includes at least one roller mounted on the carriage mounted to roll along the top portion of at least one purlin and thus support and guide the carriage along the downstream direction. The roller includes a frustum portion to hinder movement of the carriage in a direction lateral to the downstream direction and thus help to maintain the carriage in alignment with the purlins.

  • Patent number: 5884449
Abstract: A method for providing a roof structure of the type having a plurality of purlins spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement is disclosed. A first section of the roof structure, which includes purlins, a support sheet, insulation material, and hard roofing material, is completed. A carriage is then moved in a first direction along the length of the purlins and away from the first section of the roof structure to define a gap between the completed first section and the carriage. The movement of the carriage pays out a support sheet from the carriage so that the support sheet depends from adjacent purlins in the gap. A wind barrier, which is in a generally horizontal position to prevent wind from blowing vertically through the gap, is provided, thereby hindering wind disturbance of the support sheet.

  • Patent number: 5720147
Abstract: A method for providing a roof structure having a plurality of trusses spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement is disclosed. The trusses each have a top portion. A support sheet is payed out so that the support sheet depends from the top portions of adjacent trusses. Flexible insulation material is applied above the support sheet so that the flexible insulation material is supported by the support sheet. Metal deck sheets are fastened to the top portion of the trusses, thereby forming a metal deck. A temporary waterproofing sealant is applied to the metal deck to protect the flexible insulation material, thereby creating a partially completed roof structure. Rigid insulation board and a waterproofing membrane are subsequently applied onto the metal deck, thereby forming a completed permanently sealed roof structure.

  • Patent number: 5685123
Abstract: An apparatus for providing a roof structure of the type having a plurality of purlins spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement is disclosed. The space between the vertical portions of adjacent purlins defines an insulation cavity that is generally rectangular in cross-sectional shape. The apparatus includes a carriage movable in a first direction along the length of the purlins for paying out a support sheet for support of insulation material as the carriage travels along the length of the purlins. The apparatus also includes at least one roller guide extending downward on top of the support sheet, rotating along the length of the support sheet, causing the support sheet to substantially conform to the shape of the insulation cavity. The roller guide is attached to the carriage and has two ends having wheels positioned at the sides of the insulation cavity.

  • Patent number: 5653081
Abstract: A method for providing a roof structure having a plurality of purlins spaced apart from one another in a parallel arrangement the purlins having top portions is disclosed. A carriage is providing upon which is mounted a roll of support sheet. A first section of the roof structure comprising purlins, a support sheet, insulation material, and hard roofing material is completed. An insulation support sheet having side edges which enable the support sheet to be laid on adjacent purlins is then provided. The side edges are aligned with the top portions of adjacent purlins so that the support sheet can depend from the adjacent purlins. The carriage is moved along the length of the purlins and away from the first section of the roof structure, in which the movement of the carriage pays out the support sheet in a pleated condition having a first width so that the edges of the support sheet are aligned with the top portions of adjacent purlins and the support sheet depends from adjacent purlins.
