Patent number: 7995560Abstract: A communications system and method of managing communications with multiple appearance endpoints, e.g. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) endpoints in the communications system. At least one SIP endpoint includes a keyset with multiple lines, at least a primary line and one or more secondary and/or phantom lines. A Back to Back User Agent (B2BUA) manages communications with the SIP endpoints and multiple (e.g., all) line appearances register in a single REGISTER message sent by the primary line to the B2BUA. The B2BUA sends NOTIFY messages for any incoming call and once the call is answered sends an INVITE message to the answering endpoint. The B2BUA includes a media negotiator that negotiates early media with the SIP endpoints upon an indication of a pending call, incoming or outgoing.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2006Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Siemens Enterprise Communications, Inc.Inventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 7830823Abstract: A Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) enabled device sends feature information about remotely configurable features that are offered by the SIP enabled device to a central server. The central server uses the feature information to determine if the features that are offered by the SIP enabled device are compatible with features that are offered by the central server. The central server remotely configures the features that are offered by the SIP enabled device to ensure interoperability with the features that are offered by the central server. The SIP enabled device notifies the central server if a feature button associated with a feature, which has been disabled by the central server, has been pressed by a user of the SIP enabled device. The central server seamlessly provides a comparable feature to the user, including the setting of a Light Emitting Diode, which is associated with the feature button, to an appropriate state.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2005Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Siemens Enterprise Communications, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth E. Patent number: 7756257Abstract: An object of the invention is to associate a DID/public or non-DID/private telephone number and/or reachable location information with a SIP Enabled Device. More specifically, an embodiment of the invention is directed to providing an additional data parameter comprising alphanumeric data, as a “Display_ID” parameter. The parameter includes information including a DID/public telephone number non-DID/private number and/or location information that is specific to the SIP user endpoint and is different from the SIP URI host address/user information (terminal name and/or terminal number). In another embodiment, a first SIP Enabled Device accesses the local Display_ID and includes the Display_ID in a communication request. A second SIP Enabled Device is capable of processing the incoming communication request, extracting the Display_ID parameter, and displaying the Display_ID associated with the first SIP Enabled Device on the text display of the second SIP Enabled Device.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2004Date of Patent: July 13, 2010Assignee: Siemens Enterprise Communications, Inc.Inventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 7450572Abstract: The invention facilitates SIP Enabled devices creating and exchanging augmented data communication messages. An initiating SIP Enabled device may be configured to create an augmented message that includes a call-type and/or a network identification. The augmented data may be configured for a SIP Enabled device by either an administrator or a system user. Furthermore, the system user may customize the default settings either indefinitely or temporarily. Upon receiving an augmented SIP communication request, a receiving SIP Enabled device may identify the request as augmented and subsequently extract the augmented data. The receiving SIP enabled device may be configured to execute functionality based on the extracted augmented data. For example, if the augmented data includes a “hotline” call-type, the receiving SIP enabled device may be configured to play a certain ringtone or display a “hotline” identifier on the device's display.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2005Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Siemens Communications, Inc.Inventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 7190778Abstract: A communications network with user presence availability and a capability of locating call forwarded users or other users. Network stations display selection of do-not-disturb (DND) at other stations, e.g., by fluttering corresponding line keys. Network stations also may selectively display call forward locations, numbers for call forwarded stations or other designated user locations that may not normally be related to call forwarding.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2003Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Siemens Communications, Inc.Inventor: Dennis L. Patent number: 6728339Abstract: In an enhanced 911 (E911) response system, a callback monitor including a microphone and a speaker is connected to a telephone. When a caller dials 911 from the telephone, upon the telephone going on-hook, the callback monitor is activated to allow a 911 operator who calls back to detect sounds from the location of the caller's telephone without that phone ringing or being taken off hook. The callback monitor includes a timer; when the timer expires, the monitoring ends. In alternative embodiments, the timer can be extended.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2002Date of Patent: April 27, 2004Assignee: Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc.Inventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 6724877Abstract: A telecommunications server (12) includes a timed recall request unit (202) coupled to a timer (200). The timed recall request unit (202) interfaces to the call park service (100) and/or the call hold service (101). When a request for a call park or call hold is made, the user is given the option of electing timed recall or no recall. If a timed recall is desired, the timed recall request unit (202) is accessed to permit the user to either accept a default length of time or to input a desired length of time. If the user manually retrieves the held or parked call prior to expiration of the timer, the timer (200) is reset.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1999Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc.Inventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 6546096Abstract: A proximity detector (111) is provided for causing automatic callback. The proximity detector (111) causes the called party's telephone (506) to send a signal to the telephone system indicating that the automatic callback may proceed. For example, the detector may cause an off-hook/on-hook event to be sent, or other specific signaling. The telephone system signals the calling party (502), who may then answer the automatic callback and be connected to the called party.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1999Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Assignee: Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc.Inventors: David Alan Vander Meiden, Dennis L. Patent number: 6205213Abstract: A system and method for communication information between origination equipment and destination equipment, in which switching signal information is received from a calling party telephone network. Additionally, information is also received from origination equipment for use by destination equipment for displaying calling party numbers. A display for use with the destination equipment receives the information from the calling party telephone network. From the plurality of information received, a first code from the calling party telephone network identifies calling party number information, and a second code from the calling party telephone network identifies partitioning and delineation information of the first code relating to a convention of parsing of telephone numbers associated with the calling party telephone network.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1998Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: Siemens Information and Communication Networks, Inc.Inventors: Dennis L.
