Patent number: 8452271Abstract: The described method and system enables a telematic operator to determine a connectivity standing of devices requiring a port change from one wireless carrier to another. In particular, a modem initiates a call to each affected mobile directory number (MDN) and verifies connectivity to the correct vehicle using a telematic authentication encrypted key with appropriate verification of the stored MIN, electronic serial number (ESN), and station ID (STID). The list of verified devices of good connectivity is used to facilitate the MIN change to those telematic devices whereby a higher probability of success is most likely to occur. Moreover, by distinguishing devices most likely to commit a MIN port on the first attempt, a potential impact population whereby success is not likely is also developed, so that further appropriate scrutiny or action can be executed for problematic devices.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2010Date of Patent: May 28, 2013Assignee: General Motors LLCInventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 8391849Abstract: The described principles provide a method and system for enabling a telematic operator to determine that an outbound call has been placed to a non-telematic mobile directory number by the telematic operator in error. In one aspect, the invention allows the telematic operator to create an identification of all non-telematic MDN's stored by the wireless carrier which the telematic operator continues to believe are active and are associated with a pending transaction. Improved synchronization of records between the wireless carrier and telematic operator is provided to minimize incidents involving transactional differences between MDN values stored by the wireless carrier and telematic operator when an assigned MDN is processed in error between the two entities. The use of unique modem telephone numbers by the telematic operator allows identification of the affected MDN (by the telematic operator) while providing the customer data privacy needed for the wireless carrier.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2010Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: General Motors LLC.Inventors: Dennis L. Zoeckler, Richard J. Moll

Patent number: 8160581Abstract: A system for correcting or updating a mobile identification number in a cellular telephone portion of a telematics unit installed in a vehicle allows service providers to resolve duplicate entries. A wireless service provider stores a triplicate entry in their HLR for cellular telephones associated with a number of telematics unit. The triplicate entry includes a MDN, a MIN, and an ESN. If a telematics unit's triplicate entry is an invalid combination, resulting, e.g., in call failure, the system provides an efficient mechanism whereby the service provider can update the MIN of each cellular telephone in one or more telematics units to eliminate duplicate entries.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2009Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: General Motors LLCInventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 7756252Abstract: A method for network denial case generation includes receiving a plurality of third-party carrier call records associated with a plurality of subscriber telematics units at a call center wherein each call record includes a call status, determining at least one call record having a failure condition based on the call status, determining a subscriber telematics unit associated with the call record having the failure condition, and determining a network denial case action for the subscriber telematics unit based on the failure condition. A computer usable medium with suitable computer program code is employed for network denial case generation.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2006Date of Patent: July 13, 2010Assignee: General Motors LLCInventors: Dennis L. Patent number: 7356304Abstract: A system and method for providing subscription service notification at a mobile digital radio device is described. The method includes determining a digital radio subscription service expiration notice, communicating the subscription service expiration notice to a mobile digital radio receiver, storing a received expiration notice at the digital radio receiver, and providing the stored expiration notice to a user. A computer readable medium having computer readable code for determining a digital radio subscription service expiration notice is also provided. Computer readable code for directing the communication of the subscription service expiration notice to a mobile digital radio receiver, computer readable code for storing a received expiration notice at the digital radio receiver; and computer readable code for providing the stored expiration notice to a user are stored to the computer readable medium.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2003Date of Patent: April 8, 2008Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Dennis L. Patent number: 7302315Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for remotely inventorying electronic modules installed in a vehicle. A vehicle telematics unit sends an identification request to at least one electronic module. The telematics unit receives at least one electronic module identifier in response to the request. The identifier includes the serial number and software revision for the electronic module. The received identifier is transmitted from the telematics unit to a call center. The call center, or a quality center to which the call center sends the transmitted identifier, determines if the transmitted identifier corresponds with an identifier included in an electronic module identifier database. The database includes an identifier for each module that is intended to be installed in the vehicle. A quality assurance notice is sent based on the determination, indicating either that the correct module is installed in the vehicle or that an incorrect module must be replaced.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2006Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Christopher L. Oesterling, Dennis L. Zoeckler, Thomas A. Gawlik, Nathan D. Ampunan
