  • Patent number: 9850112
Abstract: A load-bearing apparatus (100) comprises a winch apparatus (110), and a load-bearing spoolable medium (120) for connecting to a load, the load-bearing spoolable medium comprising a plurality of load-bearing elements (121-123); wherein at least a portion of the load-bearing spoolable medium is spooled about the winch apparatus. The provision of multiple load-bearing elements may help reduce the diameter appropriate for the winch apparatus, while maintaining the necessary load bearing capacity for supporting, paying in and/or paying out the load. The load-bearing apparatus may comprise a tension control apparatus (151-153) for controlling, applying and/or adjusting the tension of the load-bearing spoolable medium.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 16, 2014
Date of Patent: December 26, 2017
Assignee: Parkburn Precision Handling Systems Limited
Inventors: Andrew Lawson, Campbell McFall, Dennis O'Hara, Philip Bull

  • Patent number: 8814143
Abstract: A winch apparatus (10) comprises first and second drum assemblies (12, 14) each defining a discontinuous drum contact surface for engaging a common spoolable medium (50), wherein the first and second drum assemblies (12, 14) are configured to rotate about respective first and second axes of rotation (24, 26) which are inclined relative to each other. In one disclosed embodiment the drum assemblies (12, 14) are intermeshed in a general axial direction.

  • Publication number: 20070169622
Abstract: Spacers for use with actuator casings are disclosed. An example spacer includes a ring-shaped member defining a central opening and configured to form a part of an actuator casing and to space first and second actuator casing portions a predetermined distance when the first and second casing portions are coupled to the ring-shaped member. The ring-shaped member includes a first surface surrounding the central opening configured to engage the first casing portion and a second surface surrounding the central opening configured to engage the second casing portion. Each of the first and second surfaces includes a plurality of apertures configured to receive threaded fasteners to attach the first and second actuator casing portions to the ring-shaped member.

  • Patent number: 6800055
Abstract: A low attenuation radioactive seed utilizing a core having a fluted or non-circular cross section is utilized for increasing the dose rate, decreasing the dwell times and improving the clinical outcomes by increasing the dose consistency throughout the treatment zone. The fluted or non-circular cross section core would increase the surface area for the deposition of the radioactive substance thereby increasing the therapeutic efficacy of the seed. In addition, the fluted or non-circular cross section may be designed in a manner to reduce photon emission attenuation by reducing the distance an inwardly directed photon would have to travel to traverse the core.

  • Patent number: 6669621
Abstract: A radioactive substance absorber is incorporated into an intravascular radiotherapy source ribbon assembly to prevent the migration of radioactive matter throughout the assembly container. The radioactive substance absorber comprises carbon in various forms and configurations. The radioactive substance absorber is positioned in proximity to the source core and absorbs radioactive materials which break free from the source core, thereby containing the radioactive material.
