  • Patent number: 7196639
Abstract: The present invention provides for delivering content, such as information, advertisements, directions, and news, to a mobile terminal based on location. The mobile terminal is configured to determine its location and whether content is available based on internal records. If content is available, the mobile terminal may initiate correspondence with an application server to obtain the content. The mobile terminal may keep a table identifying the availability of content for defined locations. Preferably, the locations relate to cells within a wireless network wherein the mobile terminal will check for the availability of content for a given cell and request the content. The mobile terminal may check for the availability of content periodically or when the servicing cell changes.

Inventors: Dennis P. Joyce, Michael J. Sutter, Kevin R. Drake
  • Patent number: 6934533
Abstract: The present invention supports transfer of a voucher to a mobile terminal wherein the voucher is associated with and redeemed at a retailer using the mobile terminal. Redemption of the voucher requires the mobile terminal to interact with a retailer's transaction system. Preferably, the voucher includes or is associated with a value and description information pertaining to a related product or service. The voucher is authenticated in a secure fashion to ensure redemption occurs according to the issuer's specification.

  • Publication number: 20030008661
Abstract: The present invention facilitates content delivery to a mobile terminal based on the proximity of the mobile terminal to a point of presence associated with a content provider. An application service may identify the location of the mobile terminal and use a locality database or service to determine localities containing the identified location. Based on the localities corresponding to the mobile terminal's location, content is selected and delivered to the mobile terminal. The localities may define any geographic region or area associated with a point of presence. For example, a locality may define a business district for a city, the city, or a defined area about a point of presence. For the latter, a locality could be defined to include an area having a certain radius about a retailer's point of presence or within a certain number of city blocks.
