Abstract: A mineral composition comprised of at least 90 weight percent of roofing granules, wherein said roofing granules comprise at least 40 weight percent of calcium carbonate, have a hardgrove grindability index of less than 70, contain less than 1.0 percent of particles smaller than 250 microns, contain less than 1.0 percent of particles greater than 2380 microns, contain from about 2 to about 10 percent of particles greater than 1,680 microns, contain less than 2 percent of particles less than 40 microns, and have a Hunter L value of from about 20 to about 30.
