    Abstract: An adaptation of a commercially-available printer designed for use with cellulose-based print media is described which transforms the commercially-available printer into a printer that can print on silica-based print media. The printer has an increased heat differential between fuser rollers which are lined with a substantially non-porous elastomeric material to increase release characteristics. The fuser oil assembly is also adapted so as to substantially increase an amount of oil deposited onto the fuser rollers, thereby further increasing release characteristics of the fuser rollers and decreasing adhesion to the silica-based print media.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for separating a first flexible lamina of predetermined thickness from a second lamina to which the first lamina is adhered along an edge (e.g., a pouch for use in an identification card). The apparatus includes a channel having a thickness not substantially greater than the combined thickness of the laminae, an impeller for impelling the laminae together through the channel and out of the outlet end, a cutter adjacent the outlet of the channel positioned to contact the edge at which the two laminae are adhered adjacent the line of adhesion between the laminae, thus separating the laminae, and a wedge adjacent the cutter so that as the first and second laminae are separated by the cutter and impelled past the wedge, the two laminae pass on opposed sides of the wedge, thereby increasing the separation between the laminae.

    Abstract: A laminar structure, for example an identity card, comprises a photograph and a supported hologram. A moisture-impermeable barrier layer and an adhesive layer are disposed between the hologram and the photograph, so that the photograph can be secured to the hologram while the former is still wet. The supported hologram, the barrier and adhesive layers and the photograph are sandwiched between first and second sheets. The hologram is sufficiently adhered to the photograph that, if an attempt is made to separate the supported hologram from the photograph, fracture will occur within the hologram or between the hologram and its support sheet, so that at least part of the hologram will remain attached to the photograph, so that it is not possible to detach the hologram from the photograph, leaving the hologram attached to the first sheet, and thus substitute a different photograph in the laminar structure.
