  • Publication number: 20230339632
Abstract: A forming device has a die with at least one recess, a punch for forming the packaging material into the recess, and a hold-down device. The hold-down device and the die receive the packaging material between them in a holding region. The die and the hold-down device each have a bearing surface with at least one opening, which is in fluid communication with a fluid source. An aerostatic bearing is formed between the packaging material and the hold-down device and between the packaging material and the die.

  • Patent number: 7112036
Abstract: A rotor and bearing system for a turbomachine. The turbomachine includes a drive shaft, an impeller positioned on the drive shaft, and a turbine positioned on the drive shaft proximate to the impeller. The bearing system comprises one gas journal bearing supporting the drive shaft between the impeller and the turbine. The area between the impeller and the turbine is an area of increased heat along the drive shaft in comparison to other locations along the drive shaft. The section of the drive shaft positioned between impeller and the turbine is also a section of the drive shaft that experiences increased stressed and load in the turbomachine. The inventive bearing machine system positions only one radial bearing in this area of increased stress and load.

  • Publication number: 20020067872
Abstract: One embodiment includes a plurality of equally spaced top foils and corrugated springs with one or more shims underneath the trailing edge of each corrugated spring. The corrugated spring forms an underspring for the top foil. Another embodiment incorporates one or more shims at the outer radius region of the corrugated spring in addition to the shim at the trailing edge of the corrugated spring. The shim under the trailing edge of the corrugated spring results in increased load capacity and stability and a decrease in lift-off speed of the rotating thrust disk. The shims located at the outer radii of the corrugated springs result in increased bearing stiffness at the outer region of the compliant foil thrust bearing where the highest pressure occurs.
