Abstract: Payment card transactions at a point of sale (POS) are secured in certain embodiments by intercepting, with a POS security layer installed on a POS terminal, payment data from the POS terminal, transmitting the payment data from the POS security layer to a server security application installed on a POS server, and providing false payment data from the POS security layer to a POS terminal application installed on the POS terminal. The false payment data in various embodiments is processed as if it were the payment data, such that the POS terminal transmits an authorization request to the POS server using the false payment data. In addition, the authorization request may be transmitted from the POS server to a payment gateway.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method of predictive decision-making in an ad hoc network. The computer-implemented method includes receiving a set of rules into the ad hoc network and identifying a data set for each rule. The computer-implemented method also includes selecting a first and second node from the ad hoc network to process a first and second rule as a function of the identified data set according to an optimizing algorithm. The computer-implemented method also selects a third node to receive the processed results from the first and second nodes. An indication is provided of the processed results by the third node.

Abstract: An electronic commerce (e-commerce) system may send advertisement emails to customers that are registered with the e-commerce system. The advertisement emails may include mailto hyperlinks. Each mailto hyperlink may be associated with a product that is being offered for sale, and each mailto hyperlink describes an email message that may be generated when that hyperlink is selected. When a mailto hyperlink is selected, the generated email message may include one or more parameters related to the product associated with the hyperlink, such as an identifier of the product. The generated email message may then be transmitted to the e-commerce system. The e-commerce system may receive the message and, based on the parameters in the received message, execute a transaction to purchase the identified product on behalf of the customer.

Abstract: A merger, for picking up and distributing materials from a ground surface, includes a frame that provides support to the merger, a pick-up head affixed to the frame that lifts the materials from the ground surface, a height adjustor affixed to the frame that maintains a minimum clearance between the ground surface and the pick-up head, and a conveyor affixed to the frame that receives the materials from the pick-up head. The conveyor includes a first belt and a second belt that independently distributes the materials on the ground surface from at least one of a first side of the frame and a second side of the frame.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for heating moving continuous glass ribbons at desired lines of separation and/or for separating glass sheets from continuous glass ribbons are disclosed. An apparatus includes a translatable support portion and a heating apparatus coupled to the support portion. The heating apparatus is configured to contact the continuous glass ribbon across at least a portion of a width of the continuous glass ribbon at the desired line of separation as the support portion moves in a draw direction, thereby preferentially applying heat to a first side of the continuous glass ribbon at the desired line of separation as the continuous glass ribbon moves in the draw direction.

Abstract: A retention system for a pallet can include retention elements that pivot around pivoting assemblies at one or more edges of the pallet. A retention rail can adopt a stowed position against or within the pallet, can lock in an upright position at a side of the pallet, or an open position extending away from the pallet, providing clear access for loading or unloading in the open position. Further retention features can be combined with the retention rails, including integrated retention straps and strap receiving elements.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and apparatuses for scoring a glass article, including positioning a plasma flame of a plasma torch and the glass article in close proximity to one another; and moving the plasma torch across a surface of the glass article to form at least one indentation in the surface, wherein the at least one indentation is formed from the plasma flame melting at least a portion of the glass surface to form a scoring line, without penetrating through a total thickness of the glass article.

Abstract: Methods and systems and method of tracking the location of an object. The method includes assigning a unique first device identifier, associating the first device with an object, and storing the unique identifier and an identifier for the object associated with the first device in a location server. The method also includes transmitting a first message containing the unique identifier, but not the first device location, receiving the first message at a second device, and transmitting a second message from the second device containing the unique identifier and a second device location. The method also includes, at the location server, receiving the second message, associating the location of the second device with the first device, storing the location of the second device, receiving a request for the location of the object, and in response to the request, providing the unique identifier and the second device location.

Abstract: An electronic information system which enables email based transactions comprises an information database storing information regarding a plurality of individuals in a group and selections available to individuals in the group. A first email message with a mailto hyperlink having a plurality of fields including actionable parameter is generated and sent. A reply email message is received in response to selection of the mailto hyperlink. The received email message includes the plurality of fields and the actionable parameter that indicates that a specific selection has been made. A processor performs the action indicated by the actionable parameter in response to the received email message, including updating the information database to indicate the specific selection that has been made.

Abstract: An information management system may store information related to tasks to be performed by workers in an organization. Workers in the organization may communicate with the information management system using email messages. The information management system may not require a login or authentication procedure, and workers may interact with the information management system without the need to log in to the information management system. The information management system may receive an email message from a worker that indicates a request for a report. The information management system may determine whether to transmit the report to the worker based on whether the worker is appropriately registered with the information management system, and/or whether the worker has administrative privileges. The information management system, in response to a positive determination, may transmit the report to the email address from which the requesting email message was sent.

Abstract: A method of cutting a glass sheet is disclosed. The method comprises heating a heating element to a heat temperature, which in turn heats a glass sheet along a desired cutting line, to a separation temperature. The glass sheet is subjected to non-destructive pressure at an edge on the cutting line. The non-destructive pressure may be applied by a tool with opposed sharp edges so long as the edges do not nick or otherwise score the glass sheet. A diagonal cutter may be utilized as the sharp-edged tool. After an adequate amount of heating time, the glass sheet will achieve the separation temperature and spontaneously separate along the heated cutting line.

Abstract: A system and method for remotely managing gas concentrations in gas-sensitive facilities comprises a computer system communicatively connected to one or more atmospheric sensors and ventilation systems. When a sensor reports that a predetermined threshold for a measured atmospheric condition has been exceeded, such as for atmospheric concentrations of ammonia, the computer system generates an alert and forwards the alert across a wireless communications network to a user's mobile device. The user may select a user command to send to the computer system, whereupon the computer system may activate one or more ventilation systems in accordance with the response action or alternatively override the user command based upon one or more contextual determinations, the ventilation systems able to reduce the atmospheric condition to optimal, sub-threshold levels.

Abstract: A merger apparatus including a pick-up header; a conveyor with a conveyor belt; a skid shoe disposed below the pick-up header and the conveyor; and an operative connection between the pick-up header and the skid shoe that enables the merger apparatus to articulate independently of an external frame underneath the conveyor, such that loose material transported by the conveyor belt that lags beneath the return side may fall to the ground keeping the return side of the conveyor belt free from obstructions.

Abstract: Various exemplary devices and methods are provided for adjusting brightness of a light source. In general, the devices and methods can allow brightness of a light source to be adjusted by varying a power supply of the light source. The power supply can be varied in response to a user input. In one exemplary embodiment, the light source can be included as part of a scope, e.g., a borescope, an endoscope, etc., configured to be advanced into a target and to gather one or more video images and/or one or more still images within the target using a camera. The light source can be configured to illuminate the target at a selected one of the variable amounts of brightness. A white balance of the light source can be configured to automatically adjust in response to the selected amount of brightness.

Abstract: A shredder has cutter elements for destroying articles (paper) and a feed mechanism for advancing paper from a stack in a tray into cutters for shredding. The feed mechanism has a feed member provided adjacent to the tray with an elastic arm for engaging and disengaging the stack. The feed member rotates in a feeding direction about an axle, with the elastic arm elastically deforming to apply pressure to feed paper atop the stack to the cutters. The elastic arm can include a protruding tip that is inserted into the stack. The tray includes a curved feed bed to assist in feeding paper into the cutters and deforming the elastic arm. A pivot arm can also move the feed member relative to the tray (e.g., vertically). A disengagement mechanism can hold the feed mechanism in an inoperable feeding position when a drawer or tray is moved into an open position.
