Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for searching a remote database. A server may be used to communicate with a mobile device over a wireless network. The mobile device may include a local application database for storing data items for one or more software applications. The server may include a server application database for storing copies of data items that are transmitted to the mobile device. A local search module on the mobile device may be used to identify one or more data items in the local application database that match a set of search parameters. If the one or more data items cannot be identified in the local application database, then a remote search module on the server may be used to identify a copy of the one or more data items in the server application database that match the set of search parameters.

Abstract: A system for controlling configuration settings for mobile data communication devices and services includes a redirection server and a policy generation system. The redirection server detects a triggering event in a host system and in response to the triggering event continuously redirects data items from the host system to a wireless network. Each mobile data communication device receives data items from the wireless network and includes a device configuration stored in a memory location on the mobile data communication device. The device configuration of each mobile data communication device controls one or more functions of the mobile data communication device. The policy generation system receives a policy setting from a user interface and stores the policy setting in a user information record associated with a mobile data communication device.

Abstract: The invention disclosed is an administration system and method for administering user access to an Enterprise system that supports redirection of data from a user's desktop computer in a Local Area Network to a user's wireless device. The Enterprise system having a plurality of message servers and one or more Enterprise servers, the Enterprise servers serving to direct data stored on the message servers between the user's desktop computer and the user's wireless device. The administration system having two components, a user interface (or client) and a administration service. The client having restricted access to what changes can be made to the data on the Enterprise server, yet sufficient permissions to require a single point of access to maintain user access to both the message server and the Enterprise servers.

The mobile data communication device receives data items from the wireless network and executes a plurality of device operations. The remote control system receives control information from a user interface and transmits the control information through the redirection system to the wireless network. The control information is received and executed by the mobile data communication device to remotely control one or more of the device operations. Methods of controlling the operation of mobile data communication devices are also disclosed.
