  • Patent number: 6320660
Abstract: The invention is directed to a sieving apparatus for a bio-chip, which has a light source, a HOE unit, a splitter, an objective lens, a filter, and an optical signal sensor. The HOE unit is coupled with a light source, so as to diffract the light into a zeroth order beam and a first order beam. The zeroth order beam has no deflection but the first order beam has a deflection from the zeroth order beam. The splitter is coupled to the HOE unit, so as to lead the two beams to the objective lens, which further leads the two beams to the bio-chip, in which the first order beam is incident onto the bio-chip from an incident angle, causing a florescent light from the sample. The bio-chip also reflects the zeroth order beam. Both the reflected zeroth order beam and the fluorescent light travel through the objective lens and the splitter. The filter is coupled to the splitter, so that an undesired portion of the light beams incident on the splitter is filtered.

  • Patent number: 6204618
Abstract: The present invention is a starting method for brushless DC motor and a device for the same, especially adapted to provide the starting method for a single-phase DC brushless motor in an open circuit and the device for the same. According to the art as disclosed in the present invention, there are two successive steps in starting a motor. An oscillator signal is transmitted to the driver at first, which causes the motor to oscillate in both clockwise and counter-clockwise direction. An operating signal is then sent to cause the motor to rotate normally in one direction once the motor is out of the dead initiating position. By that the rotor can be triggered out of the dead initiating position when the motor is going to start and the motor can be smoothly operated under the low cogging torque.

  • Patent number: 6047456
Abstract: A method for designing an optimal bi-axial type of magnetic gear system that uses magnetic coupling for transmitting torque in order to be free from the defects caused by using a conventional mechanical gear system. A non-coaxial rather than a conventional coaxial type of magnetic gear design is considered for this invention. For the non-coaxial magnetic gear system, the size of torque will depend on the number of poles magnetized out of the strong magnetic material around the magnetic gear. Therefore, the optimum number of magnetized poles must be carefully selected for a set of specified conditions such that the largest torque can be obtained. An optimal magnetic gear system can be produced by the method in this invention.
