  • Patent number: 7439163
Abstract: Methods for fabricating fluid injection devices. A patterned sacrificial layer is formed on a substrate. A patterned first structural layer is formed on the substrate covering the sacrificial layer. At least one fluid actuator is formed on the structural layer. A first passivation layer is formed on the first structural covering the at least one fluid actuator. An under bump metal (UBM) layer is conformably formed on the first passivation layer. A patterned first photoresist is formed at a predetermined nozzle site and a contact opening site exposes the UBM layer. A second structural layer is formed on the UBM layer. An etching protective layer is formed on the second structural layer. The first photoresist is removed creating an opening at the nozzle site exposing the UBM layer. The UBM layer in the opening is removed.

  • Publication number: 20060071302
Abstract: Fluid injection devices and fabrication methods thereof. A first structural layer is disposed on a substrate. A fluid chamber is disposed between the substrate and the first structural layer. At least one bubble generator is disposed on the first structural layer and on the opposite side of the fluid chamber. A first passivation layer is disposed on the first structural layer covering the bubble generator. A second structural layer is disposed on the passivation layer. A second passivation layer is conformably deposited on the second passivation layer. A nozzle adjacent to the bubble generator passes through the second passivation layer, the second structural layer, the first passivation layer, and the first structural layer communicating the fluid chamber, wherein the sidewall of the nozzle is made of the first structural, the first passivation layer and the second passivation layer.

  • Patent number: 6568801
Abstract: A pressure-compensation device for adjusting the backpressure inside the cartridge of an ink jet printer includes an accumulator bag, a resilient element, and a motion element. The accumulator bag, installed inside the cartridge, communicates with the external atmosphere through an air duct. The resilient element, kept at a tension state, has a first end connected with the accumulator bag and a second end connected with the motion element. The resilient element restrains the inflation of the accumulator bag so as to induce a backpressure inside the cartridge. The accumulator bag, gradually inflating along with consumption of the ink inside the cartridge, can move the resilient element and the motion element downwards to keep the resilient element at a stable tension state, and thereby a stable backpressure inside the cartridge can be provided.

  • Patent number: 6513919
Abstract: A pressure-compensation cartridge for ink jet printers, which is able to adjust the backpressure inside the cartridge within a proper range to prevent ink leakage from the print head or failure caused by ink dropping problems. The cartridge is a sealed container with an air duct on the top and a print head on the bottom. The pressure-compensation device, located inside the cartridge, includes an ink bag, a tension spring, and a motion element. The ink bag accommodates a substantial amount of ink for the print function of the print head and is made of a soft material. The tension spring has a first end engaged with the upper end of the ink bag and a second end engaged with the motion element. The resilience of the tension spring restrains the contraction of the ink bag caused by the running off of the ink so as to maintain a stable backpressure inside the ink bag, which prevents ink leakage or ink dropping problems through the print head of the cartridge.
