  • Patent number: 5712043
Abstract: Laminar articles having improved barrier properties to organic solvents and gases, fabricated directly from polyolefin and modified polyamide, are disclosed. The modified polyamide is a blend of 97-40 wt % polyamide and 3-60 wt % of compatabilizer which is a polyether ester amide block copolymer or a mixture of the block copolymer and alkylcarboxyl-substituted polyolefin.

  • Patent number: 5342717
Abstract: A direct contact type charging component for use in electrophotographic process containing a protective surface layer which comprises a polyether-ester-amide block copolymer. The copolymer is environmentally stably having a volume resistivity between 10.sup.6 Ohm-cm and 10.sup.12 Ohm-cm and a Shore hardness between Shore D 5 and Shore D 90. During the electrophotographic process, a voltage is applied externally to the charging component to cause a charged component, which typically comprises a photo-conductive drum, to become electrostatically charged. In the preferred embodiment, the voltage consists of a direct voltage of .+-.200 to .+-.2,000 V overlapped with an alternating voltage having a peak-to-peak voltage of 4,000 V.

  • Patent number: 5317054
Abstract: A reinforced polyamide composites comprising polyamide resin, 1 to 60 weight percent fiber and/or talc, and 0.1 to 5 phr (part per hundred by resin) interfacial modifier, based on the weight of the polyamide composites; wherein the interfacial modifier are functional organic compounds of structural formula:R.sub.1 (CO.sub.2 H)x;R.sub.1 (CO).sub.2 NH; andR.sub.1 (CO).sub.2 O,whereR.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 may be aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbyl group; the number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is in the range of 2 to 16, preferably 2 to 12; and x=1 to 4.The interfacial modifier can be mixed with glass and/or talc and polyamide simultaneously and compounded directly; or, premix the interfacial modifier and polyamide, melt the premix, then incorporate glass fiber and/or talc and compound to form the reinforced polyamide composites. The physical properties of the instant composites can be improved significantly.

  • Patent number: 5298598
Abstract: A catalyst composition for the polymerization of polyamide/copolyamide comprising a primary catalyst which comprises an alkali metal hypophosphite or an alkali-earth metal hypophosphite, and an organic phosphite cocatalyst. The catalyst composition of this invention is most useful when used in conjunction with the reactive extrusion technology which requires a very fast polymerization rate to take full advantage of this evolving technology.
