Patent number: 6735308Abstract: A connector module (10) for installation on a small mobile telephone to enable the module to rest at a docking station where contacts mate to pass multiple medium to low frequency signals and power and to pass high frequency signals through a coaxial connection of high frequency signals as to an external antenna. The module includes a molded dielectric body (11) having a first body part (13) that holds the first contacts (17) for medium to low frequency signals and power, and having a second body part (14) that extends from a longitudinal end (98) of the first body part and that holds the coaxial contacts (16).Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2000Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: ITT Manufacturing Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Manfred Illg, Martin Gollhofer, Dieter Clauss, Derek Andrews, Tobias Schimmele-Brell

Patent number: 6439906Abstract: A switch assembly is provided for mounting on a circuit board and for receiving a coax connector plug that opens the switch and connects the central coax plug element to one of the switch contacts, which enables the use of a plug (100) without a long projecting center contact element (102) and which enables many degrees of misalignment between the plug and switch. The switch (10) includes a housing (11) with an exposed upper face (22) having an entrance (24) for receiving the connector plug. First and second contacts (12, 14) are mounted on the housing, with the first contact including a resilient beam (18) biased up against the second contact but deflectable downwardly out of engagement with the second contact. An electrically conductive projection (19) projects upward at least partially through an opening (26) at the bottom entrance, so the center contact element of the plug does not have to project deeply through the opening in order to operate the switch and electrically connect to the beam.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: ITT Manufacturing Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Ian James Stafford Gray, Derek Andrews, Peter Jordan

Patent number: 5620340Abstract: A connector comprising a body of electrically insulating material having contact holes each provided with an electrical conductive contact element and arranged in at least two columns and at least two rows is provided. Each column has a longitudinal direction. Each contact element comprises a set of contact springs arranged for contacting a contact pin of a mating connector. Shielding elements of electrically conducive plate material being disposed in the body are provided. Each shielding element is shaped and arranged so that neighboring contact elements are always entirely shielded from each other by parts of the shielding elements. The shielding elements are square wave shaped and are each arranged within one column in such a way that an open portion of each of the square wave shaped shielding elements is not adjacent to an open portion of a neighboring square wave shaped shielding element.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1995Date of Patent: April 15, 1997Assignee: Berg Technology, Inc.Inventor: Derek Andrews

Patent number: 5516294Abstract: A connector system is provided with connectors, each of which comprises at least one shielded terminal. The shielded terminal has a ground contact and at least one signal terminal. The ground contact is substantially identical for signal conductors terminating either in a female, a male, or a hermaphroditic structure. The shielded terminal also has at least one lug extending beyond the shielded terminal. The signal terminal is either provided, at one end of the shielded terminal with at least one clamping lug which can be folded around the signal conductor of an electrical cable to establish a firm electrically conductive contact therewith, or it is integrally made with the signal conductor.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1993Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Assignee: Berg Technology, Inc.Inventors: Derek Andrews, Andrew G.
