  • Publication number: 20070227868
Abstract: A control system for an electrosurgical instrument includes a housing selectively positionable relative to an operating theater with the housing being coupled to an electrosurgical energy source. The system also includes at least one foot-activatable pedal operatively engaged with the housing which has indicia identifying the function of the pedal disposed thereon.

  • Publication number: 20070203481
Abstract: A redundant temperature monitoring system and method for an electrosurgical system are provided. The temperature monitoring circuit includes at least one temperature sensor for sensing a temperature at a measuring point, a first temperature measurement circuit coupled to the at least one temperature sensor for generating a first temperature value, a second temperature measurement circuit coupled to the at least one temperature sensor for generating a second temperature value, and a control circuit for determining a difference between the first and second temperature values and for comparing the difference to a first predetermined threshold. If the difference is greater than the first predetermined threshold, the control circuit generates a warning signal. If the difference is greater than a second predetermined threshold, the control circuit generates an alarm signal and/or shuts down a power source of the electrosurgical system.

The system also includes at least one foot-activatable pedal operatively engaged with the housing which has indicia identifying the function of the pedal disposed thereon. Illuminating means are also included with the system which illuminating means are designed to illuminate at least a portion of the pedal which, in turn illuminates the indicia.

  • Publication number: 20050021020
Abstract: A system is disclosed for activating an electrosurgical instrument. The system includes an electrosurgical assembly, a control assembly, and an activation device. The electrosurgical assembly includes an electrosurgical instrument and a driver circuit operatively coupled to the electrosurgical instrument. A controller circuit, a safety circuit, and a latch circuit are included within the control assembly and interface between-the electrosurgical assembly and an activation device. Instrument data and supervisory monitoring data originate in the electrosurgical assembly, and they are communicated to the controller circuit and the safety circuit. The electrical cooperation among the controller circuit, safety circuit, and latch circuit enables a user to selectively use the instrument in an “on/off” mode or in a “continuous” mode upon actuation of the same activation switch.
