  • Patent number: 5395115
Abstract: A golfing facility comprises a rotatable central tee-off area and a plurality of sectors disposed around the tee-off area. Each sector contains a selection of targets to enable a player to simulate playing a hole of golf (with the exception of the final put). Various training aids and scoring apparatus are also described.

  • Patent number: 4955752
Abstract: A cover assembly for an opening comprises a frame and a covering. At least one elastically deformable, rod-like closing member, which extends substantially in a horizontal plane, is provided on the covering. The closing member forms one part of a locking device, the other part of which is a retaining member which includes a groove provided in the frame, in which can engage a closing finger of the closing member accompanied by an elastic bending of the closing finger in the horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 4936703
Abstract: A frame for a manhole comprises a cylindrical pipe portion and an outwardly projecting lateral flange portion located on the outside of the pipe portion. Projections are provided on the inside of the portion and on these can be supported a cover or grating. The flange portion is constructed as a cohesive collar, which projects substantially horizontally outwards. The flange portion is located at a height below the upper border of the pipe portion. This height is a third to a half of the total height of the pipe portion. Due to the fact that the flange portion is spaced from the upper end of the pipe portion, during the installation of the frame, it is surrounded at all sides by the material of the ground surface, so that the frame is connected in stable manner to the ground material and cannot be significantly displaced by the traffic flow.

  • Patent number: 4909660
Abstract: A cover assembly for an opening comprises a frame and a covering. At least one elastically deformable, rod-like closing member is provided on the covering. The closing member forms one part of a locking device, the other part of which is a retaining member which includes a groove provided in the frame, in which can engage a closing finger located on the closing member accompanied by the elastic deformation of the closing member. Thus, in a simple manner, the covering is positively secured in the frame.

  • Patent number: 4861186
Abstract: A covering for an opening in road surfaces, squares or the like comprises a frame and a cover. The cover has a conical, downwardly and inwardly inclined contact surface by which the cover is supported on a bearing surface provided on a support flange of the frame. The bearing surface is also conical and inwardly inclined. At the bearing surface are provided spaced, circumferentially distributed wedge-shaped grooves, which cooperate with lugs on the cover. By means of the inwardly and downwardly inclined surfaces of the lugs and grooves, a self-centering of the cover is obtained. The centering is guided by the lugs. Thus, even in the case of high traffic loads, the cover is not moved from its position.

  • Patent number: 4549833
Abstract: In order to ensure that a manhole/inspection cover or grating is firmly seated in a road or other surface within which it is installed and is substantially non-rocking, it is supported on opposite sides by two frame members each of which comprises two seating blocks joined together by an elongate bar. The seating blocks have angled seating faces which are inclined downwardly towards each other and which are engaged by correspondingly inclined angled faces on the cover or grating. Furthermore the bar is provided with an additional angled seating face which is inclined in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the bar and is engaged by one or more correspondingly inclined angled faces on the cover or grating. Optionally the or each frame member is double-sided, that is it incorporates a respective additional angled seating face on each side of the bar, so as to support two covers or gratings in side-by side relationship.

  • Patent number: 4508470
Abstract: A frame, for a manhole/access cover and frame assembly, has outer peripheral portions which are generally of inverted U-shape in cross-section, and the outer surfaces of the peripheral portions, forming the outer limb of the inverted U, are formed with a plurality of apertures or cut-outs to facilitate the flow of concrete into the space within the peripheral portions to bed the frame securely into the concrete.

  • Patent number: 4498804
Abstract: In a manhole/access cover and frame assembly the cover is supported on the frame by pairs of downwardly facing, oppositely inclined support surfaces on the cover which are engageable respectively with corresponding upwardly facing, oppositely inclined support faces on the frame, and the cover has a substantially continuous downwardly facing ridged peripheral sealing surface which, when the cover is supported on the frame, overlies a substantially continuous upwardly facing ridged peripheral sealing surface on the frame. The engagement between the aforesaid support surfaces so locates the cover with respect to the frame that ridges on the sealing surfaces are interleaved but are held out of supporting contact with one another along substantially the whole of their length, so that the tortuous path between the ridges may be packed with grease to provide a gas and water tight seal.

  • Patent number: 4483110
Abstract: In order to span an access pit or manhole having a clear opening of relatively large area, one or more I-section steel beams are laid across the opening so as to divide the area to be covered into a number of smaller areas. One or more frame members, each of which is shaped so as to support parts of two covers or gratings which are adjacent and on opposite sides of the associated beam, are then positioned directly above the center line of the or each beam and bolted to the beam. Finally the areas between the or each beam and the sides of the pit or manhole, and between the beams themselves, are covered by covers or gratings supported by the frame members. Such an arrangement ensures that eccentric loading of the beams does not occur under heavy loading conditions.

  • Patent number: 4174183
Abstract: A support frame for a man-hole cover or similar article of highway furniture has a vertical wall portion with an outwardly extending flange at one end. Support means for the cover on the inside of the flange is so arranged that the frame can be mounted either with the flange at the upper end of the wall or with the flange at the lower end of the wall, the top of the cover being level with the top of the frame in both cases. When the frame is mounted with the flange at the upper end, the frame is "self-levelling".

  • Patent number: 4126404
Abstract: A grating to cover a drain for a paved surface such as a road comprises a set of parallel bars interconnected by spacers. In the central part of the grating, adjacent pairs of bars each have only one spacer therebetween, the spacers being positioned alternately at opposite ends of the bars. This allows the grating to be compressed during insertion into a support frame so that, when the force causing such a compression is removed after insertion, lugs on the grating move into locking engagement with the frame.
