    Abstract: A portable credit device for use in a credit control system has an electrochromic cell display, which contains a transition metal oxide that can color cathodically by reduction or anodically by oxidation. This enables a permanent, unpowered memory to be achieved. A credit control system is also disclosed in which the portable credit device can be used.
