  • Patent number: 7619525
Abstract: A method or system of providing security utilizing RFID tagged items exiting or entering a retail establishment. A RFID tag value of a RFID tagged item being checked out is: read by a first RFID reader, added to an exit queue, and read by a second RFID reader at an exit of the retail establishment after which it is ascertained that the RFID tag value is or is not in the exit queue respectively resulting in deletion of the RFID tag value from the exit queue or raising a security alert. A RFID tag value of a first RFID tagged item at an entrance of the retail establishment is read by a RFID reader, added to an entrance queue, determined as having come from the retail establishment, and ascertained to have entered the retail establishment to be returned for a refund or exchanged for a second RFID tagged item.

  • Publication number: 20090094071
Abstract: A method for processing insurance coverage requests. An insurance data processing system (IDPS) receives at least one request from a customer relating to insurance coverage for the customer. Each request independently requests activation or deactivation of the insurance coverage. The requests are ordered in a time sequence if the at least one request includes more than one request. The IDPS verifies, for each request received, that it is permissible for the IDPS to accommodate each request. After each request is verified, the IDPS archives each request in a non-volatile storage medium of the IDPS.

  • Publication number: 20080088755
Abstract: There is disclosed a double-sided liquid crystal display (LCD) panel which includes a first polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) layer configured to be responsive to an applied DC voltage for making the first PDLC layer substantially transparent; a center liquid crystal cell layer; a second PDLC layer configured to be responsive to an applied DC voltage for making the second PDLC layer substantially transparent; and an LCD control module configured to control the first and second PDLC layers such that the center liquid crystal cell layer is viewable from a selected viewing side. Depending on the selected viewing side, the LCD control module is configured to select one of the first and second PDLC layers to make substantially transparent, and the other of the first and second PDLC layers to make substantially translucent. A light source may be applied to a side of a translucent one of the PDLC layers to provide a backlight for the center liquid crystal layer.

  • Publication number: 20070074179
Abstract: A position sensing system controls selection of channels in a KVM switch having a plurality of channels. The system has a sensor interface for receiving a sensor reading indicating a current position of a position movable component. Each position of the movable component is associated with one of the plurality of channels. The position sensing system also includes a position component for selecting channels of the KVM switch according to the sensor reading. The position component comprises a position definition component and a translation component. The definition component identifies one of the channels corresponding to the sensor reading based on one of a position definition. Each position definition provides sensor readings corresponding to the positions associated with one of the channels. The translation component generates a signal for selecting the determined channel at the KVM switch. This signal is provided to the KVM switch to switch the KVM channel.
