Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for monitoring the status of an item subject to a lien, comprising receiving registration information associated with the item subject to the lien, including at least one identifier uniquely associated with the item. The registration information is stored in a record associated with the item within an item database. Data about the item is received over a communications network from at least one information source based on the unique identifier associated with the item. The received data is compared to the stored registration information to determine whether the status of the item has changed. The database record is updated to reflect a change in status of the item and a notification is automatically generated to a holder of the lien when the status of the item has changed.
