Abstract: Substituted naphthoquinones of the formula (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 represent alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, hydroxy, hydrogen or halogen or any two of the groups R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 taken together complete a carbocyclic ring, have useful anti-allergy activity in mammals.

Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions are produced comprising as the active ingredient a compound of the formula ##STR1## or a pharmaceutically acceptable, nontoxic salt thereof or hydrate thereof, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, or any two of the groups R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, taken together with the carbon atoms to which they are joined complete a substituted or unsubstituted carbocyclic ring, and X is a bond or an oxygen atom, is combined with a pharmaceutically acceptable, nontoxic inert diluent or carrier. Those compounds wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are not all simultaneously hydrogen are novel.When X is a bond, the compounds may be prepared by reacting an appropriately substituted 3-dyanomethylene phthalide with a base and, thereafter, if desired, converting the compound to a salt.

Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-allergy activity in which the active anti-allergy agents are certain 3-nitro-.alpha.-pyridones and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts formulated in one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers.

Abstract: Nitro-indane-diones, their production, and pharmaceutical compositions and their administration in forms suitable for the prophylaxis of asthma, hayfever and rhinitis in amounts effective for oral, parenteral and insufflation administration for such forms. The compounds are nitro-indane-diones of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 have certain designated meanings, obtained by nitration of a parent un-nitrated compound and wherein ring A contains 1 or 2 double bonds.

Abstract: Substituted .omega.-nitroacetophenones and their preparation and intermediates therefor are described together with pharmaceutical compositions containing such nitroacetophenones for the prophylaxis and treatment of diseases associated with allergic or immunological reactions such as asthma, hayfever and rhinitis.
