Patent number: 9807359Abstract: A system and method for advanced lens geometry fitting is provided for projecting images using a projector with a non-planar lens. An initial estimate of intrinsic parameters of the projector can be determined, for example from a list; an initial estimate of extrinsic parameters of the projector can be determined based on the initial estimate of intrinsic parameters. The intrinsic parameters and extrinsic parameters can be optimized together by starting with a simple lens model and iteratively adding nonlinear terms, an error function evaluated at each iteration, for example for each set of intrinsic parameters in the list and the corresponding extrinsic parameters. As the values of the error function converges the optimized intrinsic parameters and the optimized extrinsic parameters can be used to generate images that are projected by the projector.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2017Date of Patent: October 31, 2017Assignee: CHRISTIE DIGITAL SYSTEMS USA, INC.Inventors: Kevin Moule, Eliezer Azi Ben-Lavi, Derek Scott, Daniel Thomson Urquhart

Patent number: 9311002Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer readable media for accessing and compressing data at a virtually provisioned storage entity are disclosed. According to one aspect, a method includes receiving, at a data storage entity, an input/output (I/O) command to perform an operation on data associated with a logical block address (LBA) in a virtually provisioned device in the data storage entity, wherein the data storage entity has established an expanded private LBA space for the virtually provisioned device in the data storage entity to include both a compressed LBA space portion for storing compressed data and an associated uncompressed LBA space portion for storing uncompressed data. The method further includes determining if a data chunk containing the data in the uncompressed LBA space is available using the LBA in the I/O command to access the data chunk. If the data chunk in the uncompressed LBA space is available, the method includes performing the operation on the data chunk.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2010Date of Patent: April 12, 2016Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Derek Scott, Karl M. Publication number: 20140372213Abstract: Systems and methods for creating connections for advocate advice are provided. Various embodiments of the present invention relate to identifying users as experts/advocates in a particular area and connecting the experts/advocates with users of a social network. The experts/advocates can be self-identified or identified through a selection process. For example, products owned by a particular user can be identified (e.g., manually or automatically), and the particular user can opt-in as an advocate for those products. In some embodiments, various rewards can be provided to encourage participation at different levels. The experts/advocates can provide recommendations based on subject matter selected by the user (e.g., twins, pregnancy, cancer, phone type, etc.) with or without any friendship connections. In addition, the experts/advocates can be recommended to users of the social network based one or more social signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2013Publication date: December 18, 2014Inventors: Jeffrey Gipson, Derek Scott, Paul Adams, Kevin Knight, David Schatz

Patent number: 6862690Abstract: A method and system for recovering nodes in a hierarchical computer network is disclosed. The operating system of the network detects and exception condition, recovers only the nodes within the scope of the exception condition, and issues I/O requests to nodes during recovery that are not within the scope of the exception condition. The method may involve a computer network system with a plurality of paths connected to adapters on at least one host computer for managing input/output (I/O) requests between the host computer and fibre channel devices, which have a plurality of logical units (LUNs) associated therewith.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2001Date of Patent: March 1, 2005Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Michael W. Patent number: 6721812Abstract: A method and system for managing I/O resources for communications between a host and a target device through at least one adapter, involves setting a local resource associated with each adapter. If a target device cannot accept an I/O request, the local resource associated with each adapter is set to the number of I/O resources currently used by each adapter associated therewith. The host is configured to issue no more than the local resource number of I/O requests to any individual adapter. The local resources may be periodically rebalanced to account for changes in system needs.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2001Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Derek Scott, Eric R. Publication number: 20040021576Abstract: A smoke sensor and a carbon monoxide sensor are integrated into a common detector housing. The smoke sensor is coupled to a smoke detector control integrated circuit which generates a binary output signal indicative of the presence of smoke. This signal is coupled to a programmed microprocessor in the detector housing. The carbon monoxide sensor is also coupled to the microprocessor. Outputs from the two sensors are processed substantially independently. In the presence of smoke, the smoke alarm is generated by the microprocessor. In the presence of sufficient levels of carbon monoxide, in the absence of smoke, a carbon monoxide alarm will be generated.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2003Publication date: February 5, 2004Inventors: Derek Scott, Vincent J. Patent number: 6496914Abstract: A host system, such as a server, controls a plurality of different class storage devices on a network. The operating system on the host assigns a unique identification to each storage device using a standard protocol and maintains the identification in the operating system. This allows control of the storage devices without complications even though different classes of devices, using differing identification protocols, are assembled on the same network.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2001Date of Patent: December 17, 2002Assignee: EMC CorporationInventors: Eric R.
