The upconversion of the electrical signals can be performed with or without suppression of the optical carrier frequency.

    Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods for use with optical transmitters and optical upconverters, including one or more bias circuits to adjust operating parameters of the apparatus, system or device. One embodiment of the bias circuit reduces power at an optical output to suppress an optical carrier, to extinguish sidebands, or to adjust other operational parameters. Another embodiment of the bias circuit reduces specific components of an optical output signal which correspond to an electrical oscillator at an input of the upconverter. Bias circuits can be operated simultaneously or separately in different time periods.
