  • Publication number: 20160330992
Abstract: A freeform fabrication system for the production of an edible three-dimensional food product from digital input data is disclosed. Food products are produced in a layer-by-layer manner without object-specific tooling or human intervention. Color, flavor, texture and/or other characteristics may be independently modulated throughout the food product. In addition, in some cases, the food products may further undergo one or more post-processing steps.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 9, 2015
    Publication date: November 17, 2016

  • Patent number: 8506862
Abstract: A materials system, kit, and methods are provided to enable the formation of articles by three dimensional printing. A method includes providing a particulate material comprising a plurality of adjacent particles, the particulate material including an aqueous-insoluble thermoplastic; applying to at least some of the plurality of particles an aqueous fluid binder in an amount sufficient to bond those particles together to define an intermediate article; and immersing the intermediate article in a liquid infiltrant medium to define a final article.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 2, 2011
Date of Patent: August 13, 2013
    Assignee: 3D Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Eugene Giller, Derek X. Williams
  • Patent number: 8167999
Abstract: A materials system and methods are provided to enable the formation of articles by three dimensional printing. The materials system includes particulate mixtures having a whitening agent and a solid particulate additive comprising an acid, the latter adapted for modifying a cure rate of an infiltrant. The materials system also includes aqueous fluids including optical brightening agents.

  • Patent number: 7550518
Abstract: A three-dimensional printing materials system and method can produce both appearance models and small numbers of functional parts in an office environment. The method can include building cross-sectional portions of a three-dimensional article, and assembling the individual cross-sectional areas in a layer-wise fashion to form a final article. The individual cross-sectional areas can be built by using an ink-jet printhead to deliver an aqueous solvent or binder to an adhesive particulate mixture, causing the particles of the mixture to adhere together, and to previous cross-sectional areas. The binder can include at least one of nonaqueous organic monomeric compound, anionically ionizable polymer, cationic polymer, polymer, waterborne colloid, or inorganic solute.
