  • Patent number: 7787675
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide the use of average CT (ACT) to match the temporal resolution of CT and PET to enhance PET imaging and evaluated tumor quantification with HCT and ACT. For example, an embodiment of a method of enhanced PET imaging on a PET/CT scanner includes generating an average CT scan responsive to 4D CT emission image data to thereby correct attenuation in PET emission image data. Another embodiment of a method of attenuation correction in a PET/CT scan includes averaging a plurality of consecutive low dose CT images of approximately one breathing cycle to thereby obtain an average CT.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 17, 2006
Date of Patent: August 31, 2010
Assignees: General Electric Company, Board Of Regents, The University of Texas System
Inventors: Tinsu Pan, Osama Mawlawi, Dershan Luo, Steven G. Kohlmyer, Dennis P. Hurley

  • Patent number: 7030382
Abstract: A method of calibrating detectors in a detector ring of a PET scanner, each detector including a plurality of crystals, the PET scanner having a field of view, is disclosed. The method comprises collecting timing data indicative of coincidence events occurring between each pair of crystals within the field of view. The method further comprises determining a detector adjustment value for each detector, determining a crystal adjustment value for each crystal in each detector, and discretizing the crystal adjustment value for each crystal to produce a discretized crystal adjustment value for each crystal. Lastly, the method comprises calibrating each detector by applying the discretized crystal adjustment value for each crystal in each detector to the collected timing data indicative of coincidence events.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 18, 2006
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: John J. Williams, Dershan Luo, Mark K. Limkeman, Michael J. Cook, David L. McDaniel, Edwin L. Oswalt, Mark P. Feilen

  • Publication number: 20040081269
Abstract: A system for registering images using retrospective gating, the system comprising: an imaging system; an object disposed to be communicated with the imaging system, wherein the imaging system generates image data responsive to said object; and a processing device. The processing device executes a method comprising: determining a target area of interest; obtaining scout image data responsive to the target area; and processing the target area so as to create a sub-target area of interest. The method also includes computing a desired image acquisition time; operating said imaging system to create image data responsive to each sub-target area; combining the image data for each of the sub-target areas to create a set of image data; processing the image data to determine a phase of the image data; and synchronizing the image data.
