  • Patent number: 7564371
Abstract: A subsystem of an avionics system is operated in a first mode for receiving software via a port; and in a second mode in accordance with a circuit that includes a terminator coupled to the port. By using the terminator to convey information regarding a desired configuration for operation in the second mode, communication and wiring is avoided between subsystems of the avionics system for conveying such information. In one implementation, operation in the second mode includes performing a collision avoidance function (e.g., providing a TCAS advisory). Configuration information in accordance with the circuit may specify an arrangement of shared antennas between multiple transponders and/or mode changes related to using an antenna for a collision avoidance function in a hijack mode of operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 2006
Date of Patent: July 21, 2009
Assignee: Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems
Inventors: Cyro Allen Stone, Douglas W. Guetter, Desi D. Stelling

  • Patent number: 5689266
Abstract: Airplanes have transponders which receive and transmit signals to communicate information regarding the flight of the airplane. A transponder testing apparatus is integrated into the transponder and verifies that the transponders are operating in accordance to Federal Aviation Regulations.

  • Patent number: 5629692
Abstract: A system for use with aircraft having a collision avoidance system which employs i) two transponder systems each including two antennas and a selected one of two transponders and ii) a failure warning when a transponder system failure occurs, to permit the aircraft to take off when the failure warning is the result of only one antenna failure.

  • Patent number: 4970510
Abstract: A self test avionics equipment is provided for use on an aircraft as part of a traffic collision avoidance system. The equipment has a radio frequency (RF) section and an integral test system. The RF section has an input/output unit, a transmitter and a receiver. The input/output unit has a local oscillator with a directional coupler, a two-way divider connected to the coupler, and an attenuator connected through a modulator to the coupler. The mixer and two-way divider each have an output coupling connector. The attenuator has an output pin switch connector. The transmitter has a modulator/amplifier portion, a spectrum filter connected to the modulator/amplifier portion, and a harmonic filter connected to the spectral filter. The harmonic filter has an ouput coupling connector. The test system comprises three dirctional coupler circuits and a pin switch circuit.

  • Patent number: 4524443
Abstract: A multiplexing apparatus for outputting selected input signals utilizes input transistors coupled between input sources and diodes. A first set of switching transistors, coupled to the input transistors and the diodes, blocks the outputting of nonselected input signals by applying a predetermined voltage to the anodes of corresponding diodes. A second set of switching transistors, coupled to the input transistors and the diodes, permits the outputting of selected input signals on the emitters of output transistors coupled to the diodes, by applying current to the emitters of corresponding input transistors, and the anodes of corresponding diodes.

  • Patent number: 4436356
Abstract: A compact base unit for use in conjunction with a microwave oven or the like includes a lower surface for resting upon a counter top, an upper surface for supporting the oven, and a storage area disposed between the upper and lower surfaces. A work surface is slidingly secured to the base unit by a roller track assembly for allowing the work surface to be either retracted within the storage area of the base unit or slidingly extended in front of the base unit. The base unit includes a camming member connected to a push rod for partially advancing the work surface from the storage area when the push rod is actuated. The work surface includes a cookware support molded of silicone rubber to form a series of concentric, stepped depressions for securely supporting various sized cookware utilized in conjunction with the oven.
