    Abstract: The end piece holds one or more optical fibers and has a coupling surface. A misalignment of the coupling surface relative to a desired surface is indicated and detected with a simple mechanical device. During and after preparation of the coupling surface, the end piece has at least one test structure with two subareas which assume mutually different shapes if the coupling surface is prepared with a faulty alignment relative to the desired surface.
