  • Patent number: 7766845
Abstract: A body fluid testing device includes a test strip, an incision forming member, and a housing. The test strip includes an expression surface. In addition, the test strip is attached to the housing to form a cavity, and the cavity slidably receives the incision forming member. The body fluid testing device is positioned over the incision site where the incision forming member makes an incision. The user presses the expression surface against the skin to express body fluid. The cavity collects body fluid via capillary action, and the test strip analyzes the body fluid.

  • Patent number: 6055060
Abstract: Analytical system for evaluating test elements having means of determining whether a sufficient amount of sample liquid was evenly applied to an application zone comprising in a first embodiment of the invention at least two sources of light which illuminate separate or at least not fully overlapping areas of the application zone or the evaluation zone of the test strip, a control unit with which the light sources, of which there at least two, can be independently activated, at least one sensor which detects light reflected by the evaluation zone or transmitted by the evaluation zone and supplies an output signal proportional to the intensity of light as well as an evaluation unit which receives a first output signal from the sensor and converts it into a first measured value when the first of the light sources is activated, receives a second output signal from the sensor and converts it into a second measured value when the second of the light sources, is activated and compares the measured values and determ

  • Patent number: 6036919
Abstract: The present invention concerns a diagnostic test carrier for the determination of an analyte from whole blood with the aid of a reagent system contained in the carrier which includes a colour forming reagent with a test field which has a sample application side onto which the blood sample is applied and a detection side on which an optically detectable change takes place as a result of the reaction of analyte with the reagent system and which is constructed in such a way that erythrocytes present in the sample do not reach the detection side, which is characterized in that the test field comprises a transparent foil onto which a first and a second film layer are applied on top of one another and wherein the first layer located on the transparent foil scatters light considerably less in a wet state than the overlying second layer and wherein the side of the foil on which the first layer is applied which is opposite to the foil side is the detection side and the side of the second layer which is opposite to the

  • Patent number: 5302346
Abstract: A test carrier for the determination of ions containing a test layer which has a liquid-resistant, organic phase which contains a hydrophobic polymer in a homogeneous mixture with a hydrophobic, organic liquid of low volatility and an ionophore, as well as a substance which changes its colour in the presence of the ion to be determined. The test carrier is characterized in that the test layer contains particles with an oil number of 80-200 and the ionophore is homogeneously dispersed in the hydrophobic, organic phase. A second test layer contains a buffer capable of maintaining the pH therein at a value of between 5-10.

  • Patent number: 5215924
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining an ion in an aqueous sample. The method involves contacting the sample with a water immiscible material including an ionophore, a pH indicator and a compound which stabilizes sensitivity of the assay. The ion reacts with the ionophore in the water immiscible material, releasing a proton which reacts with the pH indicator generating a color change which is representative of the ion to be measured. The stabilizing compound stabilizes this change. Also described are compositions including the three recited elements, and various new compounds useful as the stabilizer.
