  • Publication number: 20090158900
Abstract: A pliers-type insulation stripping tool includes an adjusting device for adjusting the cutting profile provided by the knife edges of a stack of parallel lamellar cutting blades pivotally connected at one end with a knife holder for independent pivotal movement about a first pivot axis parallel with the tool handle pivot axis. The adjusting device comprises a cylindrical support member that is mounted in the associated knife holder for rotation about an axis parallel with the first pivot axis. The circumferential surface of the support cylinder includes a plurality of segments that are selectively engaged by flat portions of the cutting blades, thereby to define different cutting profiles, respectively. The knife holder is connected for longitudinal displacement on one the clamping jaws of the tool handles, thereby to remove a severed length of the insulation layer from the insulated conductor.

  • Publication number: 20090151522
Abstract: An accessory for pliers-type tools includes a shell that is removably connected with one or both levers of the tool to alter the size of the gripping portion of the tool to conform with the size of the user's hand. Each shell has a generally L-shaped configuration and an outer gripping surface which is arched, preferably in both longitudinal and latitudinal directions, to accommodate the user's hand. In addition, the levers include an opening adjacent to the gripping portion and the shells include a locking mechanism adapted to engage the lever within the opening to connect the shell with the lever.

  • Publication number: 20090126534
Abstract: An insulation stripping tool of the pliers-type includes an adjustable pull rod stop device for limiting the extent of travel of the longitudinally displaceable pull rod and the cutting and stripping blades connected thereto, thereby to produce only partial removal of a length of severed insulation layer from an insulated conductor. An adjustable conductor stop device is mounted on at least one of the cutting and stripping blade holders for limiting the extent to which the end of the insulated conductor is inserted into the open mouth of the stripping tool. A stationary scale is mounted on one of the handles adjacent the adjustable conductor stop device.

  • Publication number: 20090120242
Abstract: A pliers-type insulation stripping tool includes a pair of blade holders that are removably connected with the pull rod that longitudinally displaces the blades relative to the handle shell when a severed length of insulation is stripped from the insulated conductor. A resilient ejector arrangement in provided for ejecting from the handle shell the length of stripped insulation. In order to permit use of the insulation stripping tool with insulated conductors of various sizes and diameters, a blade depth adjusting device is provided for adjusting the distance between at least one of the blade holders and the associated clamping jaw.

  • Publication number: 20070199197
Abstract: An insulation stripping tool for flat cables includes a clamping device adapted to be clamped to a flat cable and to provide a linear guide edge for guiding a knife holder to accurately sever the outer insulation sheath of the cable in a transverse direction. Upon removal of the clamping device from the cable, the knife holder is inserted into a chamber contained in the clamping device with the knife edge protruding from the chamber, whereupon a curved side of the flat cable is inserted within first guide grooves contained in the clamping device, and the clamping device is displaced circumferentially of the cable to sever the curved cable side transversely of the cable. The curved cable side is then inserted into a second pair of grooves contained in the clamping device, and the knife holder is displaced longitudinally to sever the insulation sheath longitudinally of the cable.

  • Patent number: 7096760
Abstract: A pliers-type stripping tool includes a base, a pair of pivot levers pivotally connected with the base, a pair of clamping members connected for relative longitudinal displacement on one of the pivot levers, a pair of cutting members connected for relative longitudinal displacement on the other of the pivot levers, a first spring biasing the clamping jaws apart, a second spring biasing the cutting jaws apart, and a first operating arrangement operable by a pair of pivotally-connected handles to displace the clamping and cutting jaws together from their normal separated conditions toward adjacent positions in clamping and insulation-piercing engagement with an insulated conductor positioned therebetween. The cutting members sever a length of the insulation layer that extends concentrically around the conductor, and a second operating arrangement is operable by the handles to separate the pivot levers, thereby to strip the severed insulation layer from the bare conductor.

  • Patent number: 6895836
Abstract: A pliers-type handtool includes fixed and movable handle members pivotally connected intermediate their ends, a movable jaw member pivotally connected with the fixed handle member jaw end, and a toggle device connecting the movable jaw member with the movable handle member. A cutting member is mounted for reciprocation within a chamber defined between the fixed handle member and the movable jaw member. When the toggle device is operated from an expanded condition to a collapsed condition, the cutting member is displaced away from the clamping jaws, thereby to remove from the conductor the insulation layer that is severed from the conductor by opposed knife blades carried by the cutting member.

  • Patent number: 5572911
Abstract: A device for stripping conductor ends contains two stripping devices arranged in a mouth formed by clamping jaws. The two stripping devices can be displaced in a longitudinal direction of the mouth. At least one of the stripping devices includes a stack of laminates which are located side by side. The stack can be moved transversely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the mouth and has cutting edges which penetrate into insulation of a conductor which is held by the clamping jaws when the mouth is closed. A laminate guidance device is matched to the profile of the conductor and controls the laminate transverse movement in a corresponding manner. The laminate guidance device is located on the rear side of the laminate stack.

  • Patent number: 5400941
Abstract: Core end sleeves (22) are linked to one another in the form of a belt and in each case have a metal sleeve (70) in the front region and a plastic sleeve (71), which partially engages over the metal sleeve (70), in the rear region, via which the core end sleeves are connected to one another. The plastic sleeves are in each case provided on their rear end with a projection (72) which points to the rear and rests on an outer side of the belt. The height, running at right angles to the plane of the belt, of the projection (72) is independent of the diameter of the plastic sleeves (71). Core end sleeves (22) for different conductor cross-sections can thus be transported using one and the same core end sleeve guide track (63) which has a guide groove (67) on its one side wall (65) for the projections (72).

  • Patent number: 5347705
Abstract: Pliers for dressing conductor ends have two handles (3, 11) which can move relative to one another, a plurality of dressing stations for the conductor ends, and a drive device (21) via which the dressing stations can be driven during operation of the handles (3, 11). One of the dressing stations is constructed as a crimping drum (18) which can be displaced axially and is supported such that it can rotate and be coupled to the drive device (21) in the axially displaced position over only one dressing process. In this position, the station can be locked via a flange (52) which projects radially from it. This flange (52) extends over the overall circumference of the crimping drum (18) and has at least one recess (51).
