    Abstract: Activated carbon is produced from lignite coke. It is characterized by the product of the molasses number times the iodine number divided by 1000 being 350 to 1000 and/or the product of the molasses number times the methylene blue number divided by 10 being 500 to 1200. It is produced by adding aqueous alkali or alkaline earth carbonate solution and/or aqueous alkali or alkaline earth hydroxide solution by means of lance during the steam activation of lignite coke in a rotating tube.

    Abstract: Pyrogenically produced silica after separation of the hydrogen halide is mixed with nitrogen and conveyed into a cyclone. After separation of the gases, which are returned into the cooling stretch of the production apparatus, the silica is first mixed with organohalosilane and nitrogen and subsequently with steam and nitrogen. Subsequently the hydrophobization reaction is carried out in known manner in a fluidized bed reactor. The reaction waste gases are returned into the cyclone.

    Abstract: Pressed objects (slugs) of pyrogenically produced oxides such as SiO.sub.2, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and TiO.sub.2 are produced using a silica sol and water. As molding assistants thereby there is employed a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. glycerine or sorbitol. The water can be added adsorbed on a pyrogenically produced hydrophobized silica. The pressed object obtained can be used inter alia as catalyst carrier.
