  • Patent number: 5950930
Abstract: A fuel injection valve for internal combustion engines, having a valve body member axially displaceable in a bore of the valve body. The valve member has a sealing face with which the sealing face cooperates with a valve seat on the valve body. The valve body has at least one injection opening, which can be uncovered in a course of a valve member opening stroke motion only after a certain idle stroke has been excited and the valve sealing face has lifted from the valve seat. The injection opening is provided in the wall of the valve body and an inlet opening of the injection opening is closable by the valve member.

  • Patent number: 5823161
Abstract: A fuel injection device for internal combustion engines, having a high-pressure fuel pump, which pumps fuel from a low-pressure chamber via a feed line into a high-pressure collection chamber that communicates via high-pressure lines with the individual injection valves that protrude into the combustion chamber of the engine to be supplied. In order for this system to make variable injection cross sections at the injection valves possible, these injection valves are embodied as injection valves with an outward-opening valve member, via whose controllable opening stroke motion in the direction of the combustion chamber, a variable injection cross section can be adjusted at the injection valve.

  • Patent number: 5788161
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines has a holding body with a protruding fixed nozzle needle whose terminal portion, has a valve cone, an annular valve diaphragm cooperates in valve-like fashion. The valve diaphragm is fastened by its outer peripheral portion against the holding body with a union nut, and the edge surrounding the opening is resiliently pressed with initial tension against the valve cone. In order to keep the strains occurring in the stroke, generated by bending, of the valve diaphragm low over its entire region, the valve diaphragm has a bulge oriented counter to the stroke direction. The bulge is preferably composed of an annular region of steep slope (.alpha.) adjoining the fastened outer peripheral region, and an annular region of flat slope (.beta.) extending from it toward the opening. The bulge may also be conical or dome-shaped.

  • Patent number: 5755385
Abstract: A fuel injection valve for internal combustion engines, with an outward-opening valve member which, at one end projects out of a guide bore in a valve body. The valve has a valve head which acts as a closing member and on which is arranged a sealing face that cooperates with a valve seat on the valve body and which forms a sealing edge. For a variable injection cross section, a sleeve is attached onto the valve member on the region of the valve member located near the valve-member head, in which sleeve are provided a plurality of rows of injection orifices which can be opened in succession with an increasing opening stroke of the valve member. In order to allow a reliable and sealing guidance of the valve member, an inflow duct to the injection orifices is designed as a recess in the valve-member shank, in such a way that a web region guiding and sealing off the valve member in the sleeve remains.

  • Patent number: 5738283
Abstract: The invention sets forth a fuel injection valve for internal combustion engines, having a valve body and an expansion sleeve that cooperates with the valve body. A pressure chamber is defined between the expansion sleeve and the valve body into which a high-pressure conduit discharges which can be made to communicate with an injection cross section into the combustion chamber of the engine via an opening cross section, openable at high pressure, between the expansion sleeve and the valve body. The cup-shaped expansion sleeve is slipped onto the circumferential jacket face of the valve body and braced axially against the valve body; a portion of the expansion sleeve is embodied as a fastening element on the valve body.

  • Patent number: 5522550
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines has a nozzle body and an outward-opening valve needle with a closing head. To produce tightly focused injection streams, the closing head has, in addition to a valve cone that cooperates with a valve seat on the nozzle body, a piston acted upon by fuel, with a jacket cut away by means of a recess and pierced by openings. The discharge orifice of the openings is axially offset from the valve cone, so that the injection cross sections, which are elongated and axially parallel, are not opened up by a control edge on the valve seat until after an idle stroke. A relief groove between the valve cone and the piston of the closing head assures a defined contact of the valve cone with the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 5518184
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle having an outwardly opening valve member, which is acted on in an opening direction by fuel pressure and in a closing direction by a closing spring. In order to control the opening characteristic curve of a stroke-dependently cleared injection cross section, an electrical actuator in the form of a piezo-electric stack or a magnetostrictive final control member is disposed in the nozzle holder, which actuator carries a collar on the valve member. The reciprocating motion of the valve member is limited in controlled fashion by shortening the length of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 5497947
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines that has a nozzle body with a valve seat disposed on the combustion chamber end and an outwardly-opening valve needle with a closing head, which has a closing cone that works together with the closing valve seat. At least one injection port is disposed in the closing head at an angle with respect to the axis of reciprocation of the valve needle, and is opened by a control edge on the nozzle body depending on the inlet pressure of the fuel. In order to minimize any deflection of the injection stream flowing out of the injection port relative to the alignment of the injection port, the port is divided into at least two parallel conduits, which are separated from each other by a dividing wall and which upon the opening stroke of the valve needle are unblocked one after the other by the control edge.

  • Patent number: 5482018
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines with direct injection including a nozzle body and an outward-opening valve needle with a closing head, in which outward-oriented injection ports are disposed. In order to form exact oriented fuel streams from the injection onset on, the cross section of the stream is controlled by the valve needle as a function of its stroke. The injection ports have a sharp control edge with a sharp control edge on the nozzle body which determines the injection cross section, and a sealing seat line formed by a hollow frustoconical valve seat on the nozzle body and a frustoconical valve cone on the nozzle needle, with a radially inner annular edge. The annular edge is disposed on an annular body secured to the valve needle and is aligned with the control edge of the injection ports in the injection direction of the injection ports. The annular body is secured to the end of the nozzle needle toward the combustion chamber either nonpositively or positively.

  • Patent number: 5265808
Abstract: A fuel-injection nozzle for internal combustion engines having plurality of lip elements on a nozzle tube, the edges are adjacent to each other. The lip elements form an obtuse cone and are held together under a high pre-stressing pressure by a clamping sleeve and an end cap. Pressure build-up in the interior chamber of the nozzle tube elastically expands the lip edges, in which case gaps are created, which form flat spray streams through which fuel is sprayed into the combustion chamber of the engine. When the fuel pressure in the interior chamber subsides the lip edges close to prevent any dirt from entering the slits.

  • Patent number: 5005548
Abstract: A fuel injection pump is proposed in which over a first portion of the supply stroke of the pump piston fuel for the main injection is pumped via a distributor line and a distributor groove into one at a time of a plurality of fuel injection lines. In a second, remaining portion of the pump piston supply stroke, on the same cam flank, fuel is then pre-stored in a reservoir, controlled by a first electrically controlled valve and a second electrically controlled valve and by one of a plurality of longitudinal control grooves, which fuel subsequently, before the beginning of the next main injection determined by the closure of the first electrically controlled valve, is pumped via a second distributor line into the next succeeding injection line.
