  • Patent number: 9028678
Abstract: This application provides an H2S scrubbing system, a column packed with an inert material, wherein an inert gas passes counter to a flow of a hydrotreated product containing H2S through said column. There is also provided a method for scrubbing H2S from a hydrotreated product, comprising providing a hydrotreated product containing H2S; and passing the hydrotreated product over a column packed with an inert material, wherein an inert gas passed counter to a flow of the hydrotreated product.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 12, 2015
    Assignee: Phillips 66 Company
Inventors: Joe E. Bares, Devadas Panjala, Fred Clark, Brad E. Vanwinkle
  • Patent number: 8766024
Abstract: It has been discovered that the residence time of oils/fats in metal apparatus, particularly in the upstream of a hydrotreating unit, for example, a heat exchanger and/or a storage/feed tank, can impact significantly on corrosiveness of oils/fats in combination with and without conventional hydrocarbons. In addition, it is also found that the presence of hydrogen in the metal apparatus can also inhibit the corrosion rate of oils/fats.

  • Patent number: 7326397
Abstract: A process for purifying a light hydrocarbon stream containing H2S is disclosed in which the selective catalytic partial oxidation of the H2S component is carried out while the hydrocarbon components slip through substantially unconverted. A catalyst that favors the partial oxidation of H2S over conversion of the hydrocarbon component of a gaseous H2S-light hydrocarbon mixture is employed. Apparatus for selectively cleaning up light hydrocarbon streams containing low concentrations (e.g., less than 25 vol. %), and apparatus for selectively cleaning up light hydrocarbon streams having higher concentrations (e.g., greater than 25 vol. %) of H2S are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6875417
Abstract: The present invention provides novel catalysts for accomplishing catalytic decomposition of undiluted light hydrocarbons to a hydrogen product, and methods for preparing such catalysts. In one aspect, a method is provided for preparing a catalyst by admixing an aqueous solution of an iron salt, at least one additional catalyst metal salt, and a suitable oxide substrate support, and precipitating metal oxyhydroxides onto the substrate support. An incipient wetness method, comprising addition of aqueous solutions of metal salts to a dry oxide substrate support, extruding the resulting paste to pellet form, and calcining the pellets in air is also discloses. In yet another aspect, a process is provided for producing hydrogen from an undiluted light hydrocarbon reactant, comprising contacting the hydrocarbon reactant with a catalyst as described above in a reactor, and recovering a substantially carbon monoxide-free hydrogen product stream.
