Abstract: One aspect includes an application capable of receiving voice commands and non-voice commands: persistently displaying a user interface element configured to enable a voice command listening mode in the application; activating the voice command listening mode in response to receiving a non-voice user input interaction; receiving a spoken natural language input; converting the audio data to text data; performing natural language understanding on the text data to convert the text data to a structured request; determining whether the structured request relates to a command, that would also be available to be executed in the application in response to a non-voice input; and in response to a determination that it does, executing the command, and changing the display in response to the command, in substantially the same manner in which the display would be changed in response to executing the command in response to the non-voice input.
