  • Patent number: 8792922
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate mitigation of interference through uplink scheduling in a wireless communication environment. Access points can assign multiple terminals to a single tile or segment of shared resource (e.g., a time frequency region) to maximize the number of terminals supported. However, combinations of certain types of terminals can cause a significant increase in interference. In particular, allocating multiple terminals having a relatively high velocity (e.g., terminals located in moving vehicles) to a single tile can cause an unacceptable increase in interference. To mitigate interference, high velocity terminals can be identified. Once identified, terminals can be allocated to the available tiles based at least in part upon avoiding combinations that result in a significant increase in interference.

  • Patent number: 8774708
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for estimating a loop delay value (Ndelay) in an interference cancellation repeater are presented. For example, a method may include setting a repeater gain to an initial gain value, setting a delay parameter to an initial time value, and measuring a loop gain associated with the delay parameter and the repeater gain by detecting a feedback signal with an echo canceller disabled. The method may further include determining whether the measured loop gain is larger than a previously measured loop gain, and if so, designating the delay parameter as the loop delay value (Ndelay); and decrementing the delay parameter when the measured loop gain is not larger than the previously measured loop gain, and when the delay parameter is not at a final time value. The method may iterate until the delay parameter is less than or equal to the final time value.

  • Publication number: 20140177551
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to manage the assignment transmission resource of forward and reserve link that is assigned to transmitting entity for a period of time. An indication of a gap is provided whenever the transmitting entity is not transmitting actual data packets (e.g. whole or part of intended data or content), yet the transmitting entity is to maintain the assignment of the allocated resource. For example, an erasure signature packet comprising a first data pattern is transmitted on the assigned resource when there is no actual data to transmit on the assigned resource.

  • Patent number: 8718164
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting pilot and for processing received pilot to obtain channel and interference estimates are described. A terminal may generate pilot symbols for a first cluster in a time frequency block based on a first sequence and may generate pilot symbols for a second cluster in the time frequency block based on a second sequence. The first and second sequences may include common elements arranged in different orders and may be considered as different versions of a single sequence. The terminal may transmit the pilot symbols in their respective clusters. A base station may obtain received pilot symbols from multiple clusters in the time frequency block. The base station may form each of multiple basis vectors with multiple versions of the sequence assigned to the terminal and may process the received pilot symbols with the multiple basis vectors to obtain a channel estimate for the terminal.

  • Patent number: 8693405
Abstract: A method for allocating resources in a wireless communications environment comprises receiving a mapping between a first hop-port and frequency range, and determining whether to map a second access terminal to a second hop-port that is mapped to at least the same frequency range during a substantially similar instance in time, the determination made as a function of characteristics relating to a first access terminal associated with the first hop-port. The method can further include determining that the first access terminal is a candidate for employing Space-Division Multiple Access (SDMA), and mapping the second-hop port and associating the second access terminal with the second hop-port when the second access terminal is also a candidate for employing SDMA.

  • Patent number: 8687540
Abstract: A device for generating a pilot signal for use in a wireless repeater where the pilot signal is added to a transmit signal for transmission includes a pilot power control unit configured to set a power level of the pilot signal as a function of a gain of the repeater and a power level of the transmit signal, where the function comprises a linear or non-linear function. In one embodiment, the operation of the repeater may be divided into gain regions and the inserted pilot power is controlled according to the different gain regions of the repeater. When the repeater gain is low, the pilot power may be set greater than the transmit power to ensure there is sufficient signal to use for channel estimation. When the repeater gain is in steady state, the pilot power may be set to be lower than the transmit power to avoid interference.

  • Patent number: 8681764
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data using single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) multiplexing schemes are described. In one aspect, data is sent on sets of adjacent subbands that are offset from one another to achieve frequency diversity. A terminal may be assigned a set of N adjacent subbands that is offset by less than N (e.g., N/2) subbands from another set of N adjacent subbands assigned to another terminal and would then observe interference on only subbands that overlap. In another aspect, a multi-carrier transmission symbol is generated with multi-carrier SC-FDMA. Multiple waveforms carrying modulation symbols in the time domain on multiple sets of subbands are generated. The multiple waveforms are pre-processed (e.g., cyclically delayed by different amounts) to obtain pre-processed waveforms, which are combined (e.g., added) to obtain a composite waveform. A cyclic prefix is appended to the composite waveform to generate the multi-carrier transmission symbol.

  • Patent number: 8639190
Abstract: Techniques to enhance the performance in a wireless communication system using segments called subbands and using precoding are shown. According to one aspect, the bandwidth for transmission to an access terminal is constrained to a preferred bandwidth which is less than the bandwidth available for transmission to an access terminal and precoding information related to the subcarriers within the constrained bandwidth is provided to a transmitter. The precoding information related to the subcarriers within a constrained bandwidth provides feedback about the forward link channel properties relative to different subbands and may be fed back on a channel associated with the bandwidth.

  • Publication number: 20140023278
Abstract: An image of real world is processed to identify blocks as candidates to be recognized. Each block is subdivided into sub-blocks, and each sub-block is traversed to obtain counts, in a group for each sub-block. Each count in the group is either of presence of transitions between intensity values of pixels or of absence of transition between intensity values of pixels. Hence, each pixel in a sub-block contributes to at least one of the counts in each group. The counts in a group for a sub-block are normalized, based at least on a total number of pixels in the sub-block. Vector(s) for each sub-block including such normalized counts may be compared with multiple predetermined vectors of corresponding symbols in a set, using any metric of divergence between probability density functions (e.g. Jensen-Shannon divergence metric). Whichever symbol has a predetermined vector that most closely matches the vector(s) is identified and stored.

Abstract: An attribute is computed based on pixel intensities in an image of the real world, and thereafter used to identify at least one input for processing the image to identify at least a first maximally stable extremal region (MSER) therein. The at least one input is one of (A) a parameter used in MSER processing or (B) a portion of the image to be subject to MSER processing. The attribute may be a variance of pixel intensities, or computed from a histogram of pixel intensities. The attribute may be used with a look-up table, to identify parameter(s) used in MSER processing. The attribute may be a stroke width of a second MSER of a subsampled version of the image. The attribute may be used in checking whether a portion of the image satisfies a predetermined test, and if so including the portion in a region to be subject to MSER processing.

  • Patent number: 8630211
Abstract: A wireless repeater includes a receiver circuit implemented as an intermediate frequency (IF) subsampling receiver and a transmitter circuit implemented as a direct conversion (zero-IF) transmitter. The repeater further includes a reference receiver implemented as an IF subsampling receiver to sample a portion of the transmit signal prior to over-the-air transmission for use as the reference signal for channel estimation. Highly accurate channel estimation is obtained by using the reference signal from the reference receiver as the reference signal accounts for distortions in the transmitter circuit of the repeater. The repeater may include an echo canceller to cancel an estimated feedback amount from an input signal based on the channel estimation.
