Patent number: 7831469Abstract: An apparatus and method for verifying the audio output at a client device are provided. With the apparatus and method, when a user requests access to resources, a profile for the user is retrieved and used to determine whether the user is to be presented with audio advertisements. If so, a test audio advertisement is sent to the client device. An agent application on the client device outputs the audio advertisement, via a speaker, to the user and records the audio that is being output by the speaker using a microphone or other recording device. The recording of the audio output is then sent back to the server that sent the original test audio advertisement for comparison. The server then compares the recording of the audio output to the original test audio advertisement. If the recording matches the original test audio advertisement, access to the resources is granted.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Dharmesh Bhakta, Juan F. Publication number: 20080153417Abstract: Short range RF networks for transmitting to a plurality of wireless RF transceiving devices within a defined area. The wireless devices within the defined area each include a short range RF device transceiver enabling the device to wirelessly communicate with a data processor controlled wireless transmission system within said defined area, including a centrally located short range RF system transceiver for transmitting accessed data to the wireless devices. The central system transceiver should have an RF transmission range covering the defined area. An RF channel(s) is set to be used only for alarms. Then if an external alarm is sensed, all transmissions along other channels in the transmission area may be overridden, and the alarm data broadcast over the dedicated channel to all operational wireless devices within the area.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2006Publication date: June 26, 2008Inventors: Dharmesh Bhakta, Altaf Faheem, Kumar Ravi, Eric S. Publication number: 20070270138Abstract: Controlling access to a facility includes sending a program and profile for facility services to a user's portable device. The services have telephones connected via a local area network (“LAN”), so a call originating on the LAN to such a telephone may be completed on the LAN without accessing a wide area telephone network (“WAN”). The program is executed on the user's portable device so that the device operates in a facility mode. In this mode, the device displays services from the profile, so that the user can select a service and easily place telephone calls to it solely over the LAN. Responsive to the user's service selection, in a normal operating sub-mode the user's portable device places a call via the WAN using a longer telephone number and in a local operating sub-mode the user's portable device places the call via the LAN using a shortcut number.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 3, 2007Publication date: November 22, 2007Inventors: Dharmesh Bhakta, Marc-Arthur Pierre-Louis, Radhakrishnan Sethuraman
