    Abstract: Systems, dies, and methods are provided for processing pericardial tissue. The method includes positioning a die-cut assembly over the pericardial tissue, the die-cut assembly including a die having a plate, a die pattern, and an opening, the die pattern attached to the plate, the opening formed in the plate to provide access to the pericardial tissue, and measuring a thickness of the tissue through the opening. The die-cut assembly may be mounted for automated vertical movement, and a platen on which the tissue is placed is capable of automated horizontal movement. Different target areas on the tissue can be assessed by measuring the thickness through the die, and when an area is deemed suitable the die pattern cuts a shape therefrom. The system is useful for cutting uniform thickness heart valve leaflets, and can be automated to speed up the process.

    Abstract: A prosthetic heart valve comprises a radially collapsible and expandable annular frame and a leaflet structure comprising three leaflets. Each leaflet has an upper edge portion, a curved lower edge portion and two side flaps, wherein each side flap is connected to an adjacent side flap of another leaflet to form commissures of the leaflet structure, with each commissure being attached to the frame. An annular inner sleeve comprises three U-shaped portions positioned along the curved lower edge portions of the leaflets. An annular outer sleeve extends around are outer surface of the frame, wherein the outer sleeve is made of pericardium. The frame is made of Nitinol and the prosthetic valve can be radially crimped to a radially collapsed configuration inside a sheath for delivery into a patient's body and self-expand to a radially expanded configuration when released from the sheath inside the patient's body.

    Abstract: An improved holder and method for implanting a tissue-type prosthetic mitral heart valve that prevents suture looping and ma y also constrict the commissure posts of the valve. An upstanding or shaft member axially positioned on the holder causes the lengths of attachment sutures to extend axially beyond the commissure post tips to create a tent and prevent looping of any of an array of pre-implanted sutures around the tips during deployment of the valve. The shaft member may be axially movable such that it can be initially retracted and then actuated just prior to valve deployment. The shaft member may have notches on its distal tip for capturing the attachment sutures, which are crossed over along the valve axis to ensure engagement by the notches. The attachment sutures may be strands or filaments, or may be wider bands of flexible biocompatible material. If bands are used, they desirably cover the commissure post tips to further help prevent suture looping thereover.
