An annular inner sleeve comprises three U-shaped portions positioned along the curved lower edge portions of the leaflets. An annular outer sleeve extends around are outer surface of the frame, wherein the outer sleeve is made of pericardium. The frame is made of Nitinol and the prosthetic valve can be radially crimped to a radially collapsed configuration inside a sheath for delivery into a patient's body and self-expand to a radially expanded configuration when released from the sheath inside the patient's body.

The method includes positioning a die-cut assembly over the pericardial tissue, the die-cut assembly including a die having a plate, a die pattern, and an opening, the die pattern attached to the plate, the opening formed in the plate to provide access to the pericardial tissue, and measuring a thickness of the tissue through the opening. The die-cut assembly may be mounted for automated vertical movement, and a platen on which the tissue is placed is capable of automated horizontal movement. Different target areas on the tissue can be assessed by measuring the thickness through the die, and when an area is deemed suitable the die pattern cuts a shape therefrom. The system is useful for cutting uniform thickness heart valve leaflets, and can be automated to speed up the process.

The frame is movable between collapsed and expanded configurations and includes struts disposed between inflow and outflow ends, apices disposed at the inflow end formed by intersections of two or more struts, and junctions disposed between the apices and the outflow end and formed by intersections of two or more struts. The apices are circumferentially offset from the junctions. The valvular structure is positioned within and secured to the frame. The skirt is secured to the frame and includes a first edge portion and a second edge portion. The first edge portion is secured to the frame at the apices. The second edge portion is secured to the frame at the junctions. The skirt is configured to retract inwardly between the apices when the frame is moved from the radially expanded configuration to the radially collapsed configuration.
