Abstract: Mild shampoo compositions are described that are economical, have excellent in-use properties, and provide enhanced conditioning benefits. The compositions have low ocular irritation potential and are particularly suitable for use by children. The compositions include a surfactant system composed on an alkyl ethoxy sulfate having at least 3 ethylene oxide groups, a betaine surfactant, and an hydroxysultaine surfactant in specific ratios; and a non-volatile water-insoluble silicone. In-vitro tests are described that allows selection of optional ingredients that do not compromise the mildness or hair conditioning performance of the composition.

Abstract: An aqueous non-aerosol hair styling composition having 55% or less VOC content, said composition comprising (i) a water soluble or dispersable fixative polymer of about 10 to about 1000 Kilo Daltons and in an amount ranging from 1% to 40% by weight of the composition; (ii) a neutralizing agent in an amount ranging from 0.1 to 10% by weight and selected from the group consisting of 2-amino, 2-methyl, 1-propanol, dimethyl stearamine, sodium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide; (iii) a surfactant in an amount ranging from 0.01% to 5% by weight and selected from the group consisting of sodium dioctyl sulfo succinate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, cocoamidopropyl betaine, and sodium laureth sulfate; (iv) a salt ranging from 0.01% to 10% by weight and selected from the group consisting of sodium benzoate, and magnesium acetate; (v) an alcohol ranging from 10% to 90% by weight; and (vi) water ranging from 10% to 90% by weight.

Abstract: An aqueous or hydroalcoholic, aerosol or non-aerosol hair styling aid or mousse composition containing a water soluble or dispersable fixative polymer in an amount from 1% to 40% by weight of the composition, a neutralizing agent in an amount from 0.1 to 10 wt %, a hydrocarbon based surfactant in an amount from 0.01% to 5% by weight, a salt from 0.01% to 10% by weight, alcohol from 10% to 90% by weight and water from 10% to 90% by weight of the composition. Additionally, aerosol compositions contain a liquified propellant gas from 5% to 60% by weight of the composition.
