    Abstract: An arrangement for recording information relating to an event on a recording medium, such as an audio or video tape, and for indexing handwritten notations concerning the event to the recorded information, comprises a recording device, a designated writing surface, sensors for sensing the relative positions of the recorded information on the recording medium and the corresponding handwritten notations on the writing surface, a microprocessor for correlating the respective positions of the recorded and handwritten information, and playback mechanisms for locating and reproducing portions of the recorded information in response to identification of corresponding portions of the handwritten notations. In the preferred embodiment, the microprocessor receives information relating to the relative positions of the recorded information and the handwritten notations from the recording device and the writing surface, respectively, and stores this information in a correlation table.
